A used blackhawk with a terribly ugly houge grip. They must have known we were stopping by. They had this priced fair for the wear & made us a cash deal even better, away we went. The trigger is broken in & very nice. The cylinder appears 38spcl was shot exclusive.

Anyone have some un-needed wood blackhawk grips to get rid of, or want a houge? I generally like houge grips but, this look on this one ain't guna fly long. Seriously.

I'll have to make a

belt & holster for it.

A 357 BH needs the wood grips. Recoil certainly isn't an issue.
Mine is a 4 5/8" barrel which I prefer. Good shooter too.

You will enjoy that

The Hogue grips on the BH are just too much of a good thing. My BHs get Pachmayr Presentation neoprenes, and those are about right for my hands--they keep my middle finger from getting whacked by the trigger guard with heavier loads. I can't do worth a darn with Ruger BH gripsets--Colt SAA is marginally better. Ruger and Colt Bisley grips/frames are my best fitting S/A form.

I'm officially jealous except for the fun you're going to have mining free lead from the chambers. Never owned a BH but shot plenty and if I did own one it would look just like that, minus the sporty rubber stock and plus a nice set of smooth walnut stocks with a brass medallion inletted. The worst knuckle-whacker besides a Smith 29 for me was the Vaquero in .44 Magnum. The .357s never bothered me unless I got lazy with my grip.

An 1860 Army grip frame on an 1873 revolver is as close to perfect as it gets for me. Got a Taylor's .45 Colt made that way and it's my favorite revolver. There's just enough room for the pinkie to be comfortably on the grip and just enough clearance for the middle finger knuckle to not get whacked, not that it recoils much to begin with.

I'm with Al on the Pachmayr Presentation grips. Here's something for the grey matter to chew on, The grip fitting YOUR hand properly is extremely important for accuracy. Ask yourself this, do you want to shoot good or would you rather look good? See how those grips fit YOU before deciding to get rid of them.

Depends on what I'm doing. For a carry gun I prefer the stock wood Ruger grips. They don't catch on fabric and fit my hands well with my pinky under the bottom of the grip
For bench shooting at longer range I would try some different grips to see what gave me the most consistant grip.

if you find another set of grips can I have those?
I don't particularly like the finger grooves either but I can modify those for another gun I have.
they'll look like crud and probably get some grip tape wrapped around them when it's all said and done [shrug]

Mine is a 6 or 6 1/2 bbl, wood grips and they work fine. My Super BH
has grips like in the picture. Sort of ugly, but makes recoil a lot more
pleasant with heavy mag loads.

Both?

OK, never mind, I own several Kryloned AR-15s and my M1A has a monte carlo made of gym mat and duct tape so I'm exempt from having a valid opinion of taste.

I'm so guilty of doing the same thing. I am somehow uncontrollably attracted to the Blackhawk family.

My BH grips I might have are the new model (both flattops). If those will work on your frame let me know and I will poke around.

Ah yes, No two grip frames are the same when it comes to Rugers. Check and see which grip frame you have. If you haven't found anything I'll look at my stash when I get back in from offshore. Could be the XR-3 or XR-3 RED.

Yeah... and I can NEVER figure out which ones are which and which ones I have...

Thanks for the input.

This says new blackhawk on the side. Anyone with grips to fit it are welcome/ encouraged to let me know what you have/need for them. I might get a couple sets for long term try outs. Trying different grips is like getting a new gun, only cheaper.

I cleaned it up. The bore shines, cylinder-no more 38 crud rings, & sight is painted. Out of 1 chamber I removed a tiny jacket ring. Guess they weren't casters.

The grip does fit my hand well but, is to ugly to keep. Houge makes the same extended grip in wood. Going to shoot a friend's with factory grips before deciding on original style or extended.

When I get some alternatives your welcome to the houge. On the off chance I'd get to see your recomebobulation of them it would be worth the couple dollars shipping for me.:D

Looks like it is probably a 1978 new model blackhawk. I kinda like it more now for some reason. Old sometimes is better
