Went to Costco Today

Although Costco has always sold the lower line gun safes, that's pretty much all they've carried (in the store) that had any real connection to firearms.
Today they had a cheapo 14 gun safe, plus, surprise of surprises, they had new G.I. type ammo cans; both 30 and 50 cal. sizes. They were selling a 30 and a 50 (a 2-fer) for $19.99. On top of that they had the Cannon "VelocityVault" pistol safe.
All three of these items were occupying prime store real estate in the middle of the store, but near the booze and meat section.

Pistol safe seems a pretty good deal, but I'm not familiar with that model, so don't know if it's any good.
Picked up two of the 30 & 50 cal ammo can sets.
Just spent a pretty good amount of money on a new safe, which is hopefully being fabricated about now in Provo, UT.

I've never been to a Costco, though there's one right next to Sam's Club only about 40 miles away. Somehow I have survived.

Ian, check out the Costco meat dept, you'll never buy meat anywhere else or go in Sam's again.

We buy our packer briskets at Costco for smoking. Same thing for ribs. They also have good deals on full pork loins that we slice into steaks and freeze 2 to a bag.

Costco...
ain't that the place that charges you money to spend your money in their store?
never could figure that one out.

I gotta get a pile of cans before I leave this place.
We get them every day for $3 ea $5 for 20 ,30 and 40 mm .

I'll 2nd the meats but I think our quality has slipped since the halal tags were added . Makes me want to snag an associate and ask if the halal meats are kosher, just to see someones head spin.

I don't shop Sam's either, and hit wallochinamart about once every five years. We're fortunate to have a store chain in Texas called H-E-B, and we live in the town where the first store started out over 100 years ago. There's no cover charge and they have some of the best stuff around, mostly locally sourced.

That is true Fiver, but one car battery will save me enough to buy the one year fee. A set of tires for the pick-up: four years worth.

Annual membership fee was insignificant. If nothing but a couple of grocery shopping trips and I was money ahead.

Like Brad, I get my prime packer's cut briskets at Costco. I don't think the Costco stores local to us have started catering to the muslims. Pretty significant population of Hindus here, but not so much muslims. Yet.

I know that G.I. ammo cans can be had cheaper on ebay, but these are new with new seals and the ones from the auction sites sometimes have bad seals.
Wrote the above about 6 or 7 hours ago and forgot to hit "Post Reply"

We spend easily $150/mo at Costco, just for the meat we consume. Another $150/mo in diesel and gasoline.

We also get a rebate check from Costco once a year for around $100, which pays for the membership.

Only been in a Costco store once with my daughter who is a member. Nothing against it, except for distance. Belong
to Sam's Club because it is much closer. Never buy meat there except for the roast chickens which are large, cheap,
and tasty. Buy 95+ percent of groceries at local chain grocery that is 1/4 mi from the house. Meat there is excellent
and reasonable, particularly for pork. I can get pork cheeks there fairly often and I love to fix them in a large pot of
Navy or Pinto beans.

I do buy soft drinks, energy drinks (by the case), things like mustard/Catsup etc, and bulktoiletries, bulk TP and Napkins
and other paper products at Sam's. The wine is cheaper there than most other places as well.

MMM-MMM-MMM! Haven't had jowl in a lifetime. Folks used to get it when I was a kid. I sliced them about a 1/4" thick and fried them like bacon.

When we lived in Michigan, had a choice of Costco and Sam's Club, within walking distance. Sam's Club didn't hold a candle to Costco. Costco's meat department was head and heels higher, in terms of quality and choice. Never did much wine buying at Costco, found local stores with more choices and better prices. They did, however, have very good prices on high end champagne.

Costco has far better service. We drive twice the distance to go to Costco. They are supposed to be building another Costco in town, right by Cabelas. We really like that.
I spent more time in line at SAMs than we spend total on some Costco visits.

Something else to consider in the whole CostCo/Sams discussion...

CostCo is a separate company and has a reputation for paying their employees well and treating them well.

Sam's Club, on the other hand, is owned by WalMart and has the typical WalMart reputation for how they treat their employees (and business partners).

I won't step foot in anything WalMart related.

Yeah that's true enough. Costco is a union shop with union wages AND benefits such as over time, vacations, medical and retirement. At Wal-Mart if your lucky you'll get your minimum wage paycheck for your part time job and nothing else. Complain about something and you won't have that.

I want no part of Wal-Mart or any adjunct of that miserable organization. We lat our Costco membership lapse when we moved out of the inland southern California area in 2008, but now we are back so it is HIGH TIME to join back up and have some of their GREAT hot dogs after shopping there. Almost time for new tires on the F-250, too.

I find this funny as I deliver the refrigerated goods for both walmart and sams club. If it wasn't for them I would not have a job. That said if there was a costco close to me I would surely be in it, alas, I only have a sams club...
