What if new laws were enacted that allowed you to have only 5 ea. 1 lb. cans of powder on hand at one time. No more than 5 lbs. at any given time.

Which 5 would you have ?

1 lb Bullseye, 1 lb Unique, 2 lbs 2400, I'd have to think about the last lb. Note that I mostly shoot handgun so no full bore rifle type powders are on list, that would be the last lb, unless a better powder for shotgun loads was apparent.

3 lbs RX-7
2 Lbs Titegroup

The other 300 lbs of 20 different varieties would just not be exactly, ummmm, "on hand". ;)

I'd go with black & claim the rest is not powder but rather, "barrel kindling" or "premium yard fertilizer". It's mostly sticks, balls, & flakes anyway. I'd claim the 5lb of 4f but, the 2&3f would qualify as "premium willow flower mulch fortified with 4th of july".

There is a much scarier infringement issue pending right now. It has further reaching legal implications than most realize.

in some European country's this isn't too far off from what they can have.
I have thought about this some from talking with friends in those places.
they aren't limited on the amount of cartridges they can have, but if they don't buy factory ammo occasionally the police will ring them up and ask about it since their license is for target shooting.

what I would do is buy 4-5 lbs of the powder I need at the moment and load it then buy 4-5 lbs for the next batch.
4 lbs at 17-18grs per round is about 1600 rounds, that's less than 2 months of winter time trap shooting practice.
in the summer it would only last 4-5 weeks unless a tournament was on then it would be less than 2 weeks worth.
I couldn't even make it through our fall gun shoot with only 4 lbs of powder if I shot all of the events.

Bullseye,Univerrsal,Blue Dot, Reloder 7, and Imr 4350, but I would have to come up with something for .410, maybe use the Blue Dot.

I sense there are a few who might be willing to stretch the law a bit on this one.....................

I hate to answer a question with questions...
But, is there a grandfather clause to this?
and if not, and it is retro-active, how will it be enforced?

I realize the OP's question is a fun "food for thought" type thingy, But to me, it's so disturbing, I want more details before I give a 'fun' answer.

To buy powder you will have to go to the Post Office and be fingerprinted and picture taken. Fill out a 20 page electronic application on a IPhone 3 with a cracked screen, plus three valid credit cards number. Wait six months to get your computer scan card you are required to use when you apply to purchase more powder. Started last week.

well I'm okay then.
by the time I get the forms filled out and acquire 3 credit cards I might need more powder.
