Dogpile is serviceable . It compiles from Goo, Yahoo and a couple of others without tracking but does have suggestions .

I just type what I want and there it is [shrug] like 2 seconds later.

DuckDuck, they don't track but sites do. Newest Firefox wants to suggest stuff to you but I turn it off.

If it's tracking you're worrying about, "private window" in Firefox is one option. But note that there is actually no way for you to really totally avoid tracking, only to avoid the particular tracking models that rely on client-side data.
Sites that share server-side data are beyond the ability of the browser to detect or control. You can detect them heuristically by using intentionally bogus search terms, like names of products you absolutely never use or search for. Tampax is a good choice for manly men.

I use Bing. Google is operated by the anti-Christ, ot at least a reasonable facsimile thereof. Seriously, Google creeps me out when you look into what they're doing. World wide control of info...not good.

DuckDuckGo search engine, and a VPN as a routine connection to the internet. I also use Little Snitch as a firewall for outbound connections, makes it hard for anything unwanted to phone home. Google, Facebook, and Microsoft URL's are blocked among others. Owning several Macs helps a little, security through obscurity, but no guarantee anymore.

DuckDuckGo, with Firefox. I think my son also has me routed through a proxy server., I'd have to ask him. Since your online traffic goes through several intersecting servers, it's unlikely to do you much good to hide, the servers all keep everything that goes through them. So there is a sort of reverse road map to help anyone trying to find you get at least somewhat close.

And if you are using a public VPN, you are making yourself conspicuous. When criminal activity is suspected, the first people "they" look at are the ones who came in from a public VPN. So consider tapering off on your illegal internet activities before the knobs and tubes get turned over to the DHS as part of deneutralization.

Trying to get Duck to load as primary search engine in Firefox, no joy. Isn't offered as a choice in preferences?

Never mind, got it. I apparently deleted DDG as a choice when I bought the stupid computer. Just had to restore it. Duh.

Bing works well for me, and you get a beautiful new photo every single day. I
really enjoy the photos.
