Want me to send some of the bullets I use? They shoot very well in my Marlin. Might be able to get Al to make a similar bullet. Mine is an old Lee group buy from many years ago.

I would but I have about 10 bags of bullets stacked around and I'm too tempted to buy moulds for them . I want a couple of the moulds a lot but these $30 bargain to good to pass buys keep coming up and poof it's another month before I can have the 35-250 or the 358 XCB , or the 270-16? SP or maybe that 45 ACP bbl for the hopelessly worn 1908 Oviedo 7*57 .....

I appreciate the offer but I have to pass.

Well I shot I shot 7 rounds of the 353 gr and they weren't unpleasant and seem to hit together , stipulation.

They were run through the Chrony F1 and each shot logged .
There were 3 cases from a previous load development they were primed with CCI Lg Pistol Magnum . The Chrony shows the difference between those and the 4 with Standards .

They were loaded with 20gr of H322 , yes lots of mummies but not as inconsistent as anticipated. The paper also reflects the exact information of the Chrony.

791,758,785 ,864,882,820 & 728 .
Two groups of 3 and a loner .
Round holes and plenty close enough to whack critters ,even if this was shot at only 50 yd.

Wow that big really shows up every defect .
The cartridge has an original dummy bullet slipped in a fired case with examples for visual aid .

With H322 you can and probably should stuff it full, which will really help consistency and give you more FPS. At 20 grains I imagine the pressure is under 11K psi. I don't know how much room you actually had left but the predictions was 22 grains at least. Looks like the mag primer group wasn't so good?

One thing that helped my longer-range groups immensely was to add a thin, hard card wad cut from 12-pack soda cartons under the bullet (with full-density loads only!!!!), it sorta makes up for trailing edge damage or defects. Cut them out with a fired, unsized case mouth so they're a cram-fit.

My guess on pressure was sorta close, QL predicts 11,333 PSI with 20 grains of H322...and 909 fps at the muzzle and 47% burn in a 16" barrel. Interesting that your loads didn't quite make that, I wonder how much jump there is until some engraving pressure starts to take place?

If case volume is increased to 48 grains of water from 44, the muzzle velocity comes down to the 860 fps range and pressures drop down to well under 9K. The standard primers that only made mid to high 700s might have pushed the bullet out a bit before lighting the powder.

if you cram a 44-40 case full of 4198 and seat a 200 gr rnfp on top of it, it duplicates black powder loads.
the 45 colt would be similar.
back in the olden day's I would scoop a case nearly full of H4895 and seat my 255 rnfp boolits on top with a bit of compression on the powder. [I'd do the same thing with my 44 mag]

anyway back to the 45 colt in a model 92.
with the 454424 boolit I seat to the front drive band and gently place a slight roll crimp over it.
with 8.5 or 9.3 grs of unique it flies straight and feeds like a 200 swc seated the same way [100% of the time]
I have shot it interchanged with my 452664 and can't tell much difference on target or over distance.

I intend to continue on up in charge weights , erring to caution .
The chambers are 1.315 instead of 1.290 . There looks to be about .08 or so to rifling contact in the 16" .
I think the next batch I will size base up in the push through sizer .

Taking in the full gamet of what the rifle is and it's source as well as it's intended role and expected use I'm not really unhappy with the groups . According to the numbers this bullet shouldn't work at all with the 1-30 twist .
I'm actually ok with this running BP pressure.

Lots of things that shouldn't work, do. You never know for sure until you do what you did and actually put it together and go shooting.

Take for example shooting 235-grain bullets out of my 10-twist .308....at ~945 fps, or 240 grainers out of my 12-twist .30-30 at even lower velocity. Crowding an inch at a hunnert in the .308, minute of cowpie with the .30-30.....who would have thought?
