WTB 8mm Max or Karibiner mold

The ones Midsouth did as a special run a while back. Seems they are out of stock now. If someone has one they don't want anymore, please let me know. Kind of interested in getting back into 8mm.

What are you sizing at?? Have a good m48, and thought that these lee moulds weren't appropriate for it.
According to who? I have what is either a re-arsenaled or unissued M48 with an pristine barrel. The Karibiner and several other 8mm moulds all work great in it. I shoot them basically unsized with a lapped out Lee push through to seat the check. IIRC they were .324+. I was just plunking rocks and putting holes in paper and such so I never pushed them past 1800 fps or so. As long as it will chamber, and the chamber and throats on those is generous, I see no reason to size any smaller than they drop from the mould.

This is a good question, what diameter do these drop at? Someone sent me a few of the Max bullets to try, made up a dummy round and couldn't get it to feed in my 8mm-06 (darn shame), but I have an Oviedo sporter with an oversized bore and big throat and I'm guessing that bullet will feed with the shorter case in the magazine it was designed for.

I bought both of these molds a few months ago to cast for my K98. I have not cast with them yet. One of many projects that is waiting in the wings.

In my reading of older forum threads I saw that both of these bullets were intentionally designed for the large throats that the K98 and its military brethren were produced with. Yet not all barrels were made with the same reamer, some arsenal rebarreled military rifles are said too be tight. That’s according to Bret and Charles conversation back in 2009.

From lee. Notes on the mould. Good to know ..

Huh. I never noticed that disclaimer before. I remember the idea being to fill the throat on large chambered 98's, but like I said, it works real good in my 48. Chamber/barrel dimensions run all over the place and the 8mm 98 military models were made over a 40+ year period in different factories. Luck of the draw on my part? I would have to see the thread to know what context Charles and I were talking about, but I'm sure many rifles were far "tighter" than others. My Turk Mauser is way different than my 48 for instance. "Too tight" probably meant "a lot closer to nominal than others".

Well, .324 out of one of these isn't going to be big enough for the rifle in question, when I did a cerrosafe casting after I got it, bore seems like it was between .325 and .326. I like the dimensions of the rifle and think it'll work up into a great cast bullet woods deer rifle if I can get a heavy, blunt nosed bullet to shoot well in it.

The rifle still has some other issues I need to address and the bolt is having a new handle put on, but I'd like to try a Karibiner or Max if I can get a diameter that works.

Gotta be somebody out there making a nice fat FN in a weight that tickles your fancy. I have to go out and do barn chores, I'll see if I can remember to stick a mic on an unsized karibiner.

Lee is making a mold now for the 8x56R now that so many of those are being imported, I think it weighs 215 grains. It's round nosed, but it may work for what I want it to do.

Found the Karabiner mold, will try to attach pictures, and a Lee 324-175-1R that I believe to be unused as well; just let me know if you want one or both. PC'd (shown) the Karabiner is about .329-.330, believe I have some gas checks kicking around nearby.

8x56R is going to run .330-ish. What do you think you'll need?

ETA- never mind, found your specs in the earlier post.

Harm,
I had two Yugos, a re-worked K98k and a 24/47, and they both liked the "beagled" Lee 324-175.
