Still on sale(primers)

I shoot slow, so I can afford to load slow.

I still use the old, round LEE hand-primer and look at every one in the magazine, to make sure they're all right-side-up and EACH one in the "ready" position before inserting a case. I think twice in my life, I've had a small pistol primer seated sideways or upside-down, so I look at every one just before I insert a case and squish that lever.

I checked my stash and found a bunch of these Argentinian primers in the rotation. I’m not exactly sure when they were acquired (I really should write dates on these things when they are stowed away) but I’ve loaded a fair number of them. (Mostly in 32 ACP and 32 S&W Long but some in 38 Special cartridges). In any event, they seem to work just fine. I can’t vouch for current manufacture, but I would say overall, they are fine. I’ve also used a bunch of the Bosnian made Ginex, Post 2008 panic CCI, really old Federal, and really old Winchester primers. As a whole – NO PROBLEMS.

There’s a strong tendency to blame ignition failures on the primer and not the person that seated the primer. After all, a failure of a cartridge you loaded can’t possibly be a failure on your part…..it must be the primer. ;)

OK, jokes aside, any component can be defective but the human factor extends all the way from the people that manufactured the primer to the person seating the primer.

All 31 went bang in my 357 LCR, yesterday. So far 100% reliable in the several hundred, I've shot. Will pay attention to missing or disfigured anvil, as I'm priming with the RCBS bench-mounted tool.
BTW, was a mixture of nickel-plated brass.................some headstamps were Winchester, Federal, Hornady, AP, CBC, S&W, and probably a few others that I don't recall.

I finally got to loading some of these Argentine SPP. I filled 400 cases (starline 38 super). They insert into the starline brass just so nicely. I tested fired a box of 50. All go bang. I did notice the cup must be a little softer than the Win SPP I used on the previous batch of 38 super (same bullet, same charge/load, same gun), by the evidence on the fired primers comparison. But, the powder I used was a newer batch (1998 on plastic bottle, instead of 1970's steel can)...maybe the powder had a bit more punch or faster burning?

All of mine are going off fine. It is the Ginex SR ones I am having issues with. I have replaced all the components in my RCBS hand primer as it was not seating the primers at least flush. So I tried seating them on two presses and the Ginex is still seating proud in the 556 cases. I about rip the rim off the case trying to seat them deep enough. And it is on every brand of case I have. Got to figure this out as I have a BUNCH of these.

Their SP primer seats fine in the 556 or 223 brass. That was all I tried till a few days ago I wanted to try them with full power jacked loads.

good to know, I was considering ordering more, once I finished up this batch of 38 super,,,and after a batch of 38 Spl, and seeing how many I have left. I guess I'll put off the 38 Spl as I still have plenty of ammo already made up. Maybe the 41 mag will be next, I have brick+ of vintage Federal
LPPM that I got right before the craziness set in.
