Being an utterly non-digital entity, I process computer diagnostics and repairs in the same light that medieval folk dealt with magick and necromancy--trust it when it works, burn it at the stake when it acts up.

Very nice gun John.
Congrats on getting that itch scratched. ;)
Like you said , it is a long drive but a very beautiful one.
I sure do miss that place...

THAT. IS. AWESOME. Those "Model of 1989" 45 ACP/AR variants might be the "best of breed" by S&W in this caliber. All the goodies--proper dimensioning (throats), adjustable sights, usable field barrel lengths. You scored a winner, for certain. Those do not come up as used models very often, goodness knows I hunted for one for years without success. I did finally commit to a 625-whatever PC (with the Castro District grip set) a couple years ago, and love the critter unreservedly, but in my heart of hearts one of those 1989s was among my Grail Guns.

To preserve the aesthetics within my gun safe, the swishy grip set lasted less than 10 minutes after the gun got home. Hogue neoprenes re-masculated the sidearm appropriately. You gotta wonder sometimes what goes through the heads of marketing wonks at gunmaker headquarters. Pink/white/baby blue........gag me with a spoon.

Looking at trajectories for a potential dedicated coyote/varminting gun. For now I'm looking at 357 max and 41 mag, both in Blackhawks (since I can't hit the broad side of a barn with a Contender). I've got more faith in, and experience with, the 41, but the 357 Max has always intrigued me.

JustJim, there is (or was?) a sweet 41 mag BH listed at the other site. I'd have swooped in on it, if I had the same love for SA as I do for DA.

You will not go wrong with the 41 Magnum. D/A or S/A, they are dimensioned correctly and are inherently accurate.

OK, refering to my comment about the BH listed on the other site, I just doubled checked and that listing has been pulled.

"Other site"?

I seem to have a jinx with S&W 41 mags. Quickest way for me to have engine or transmission problems is to buy a Model 57 or 58.

Allen I have to agree with you 100%. We are currently in a bit of a money crunch as we are saving for our trip south. But, I convinced Karyn these are very hard to come by. I had to remind her what a good and deserving guy l am. That part was a hard sell. Actually I promised to put up a couple of other guns for sale.
Like I said I had a early 625-2 with the 5” bbl which was a dream, (I think a 1990 vintage) but I would be surprised if the 4” disappoints.
I really like that 304 grain casting I have and it is a better fit in the 625 then in the 22-4 with fixed sights.
This pistol has found it’s last owner, well until my kids get it when things get divid up.

I have seen pictures of the multi colored grips on that model 625, makes you wonder if S&W was going thru a diversity issue. Glad you could fix it. I’m in the market for some wooden grips for this one. I’m going to go back and read JonB’s thread on those replacement grips for Smith’s.

As soon as it get dark Lights go out and drapes are drawn! been that way for years...since our son hit 10 years age.
Not fond on going to the door when someone is ringing the bell or knocking on the door after dark! Especially if the are costumed ghouls

I think you got a good one there John.

I have a later 4" model and simply replaced the front sight with a green glowey one.
with 200 or 230gr. bullets of both types it's one of the better point and press handguns I have.
even back to 50' or so the little 5" plates don't stand a chance if the dot is covering them.
it's even accounted for the dumbest 2 point ever, it just had to stand there broadside at about 30yds. while I sat on the 4 wheeler looking at it while trying to light a cigarette.

Jim.
your not gonna go wrong with the 41 if you stick to the 200-210gr. bullets.
the 357 max is fun and can fling a 180gr. bullet pretty flat, but the 41 is so super simple.
the dimensions only come in one size, [size to 410] pretty much no matter who makes it.
[my Ruger Hunter and darn near flopped out Blackhawk both have the same dimensions as my buddies freedom arms]

oh dang.
wasted most of the day manually pulling the newest 4 wheeler out of the shed and then changing it's battery.
why they changed from the battery being in the back to it being up front is beyond me.
it looks easy,, it's right there,,, you can see it plain as day, can't hardly reach it, and you can forget starting the bolts to the cables straight.
probably just wore myself out pulling and pulling and pulling trying to get it out of the shed.

it did start right up though, pretty impressive [and that ethanol free premium pays off once again] since it's been at least three years since I last started it. [and it didn't require any ether]
took it around town for a while then over to Littlegirls and gave the G-Boy a ride around his side of town for a bit.
brought it home and parked it then went out for a ride to see if I could catch up to those 2 bucks I been watching.

some dickhead pushed them off their normal routine tonight [you know by driving up the totally overgrown power line access 2 track] and then to top it off tried flinging an arrow at one of them at about 75-80yds. over the fence into a big posted field.
[probably wouldn't get so mad about it, but I have permission to go in there after birds and deer if I wish, and I been patterning them for a couple of weeks now]

Feeling bad. Ran over a stray today. He darted under my rear tire when I passed him.
If it was one of the older Derek's I would not have felt so bad. But it was a young cat in good health. Why people feel the need to just throw their pets away, and why in a community that is not allowed to have out door pets, I will never know.
Life is so fragile and misery is so prevelant.
People are selfish. The want a pet but do not want responsibility. Too cheep to spend the $35 to neuter there pet and just throw the kittens away.
Would like to take one of those selfish bastards and just dump them out in a jungle with nothing. See how that would feel for them.

I respectfully suggest E. 6th Street at S. Alameda Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, say after 9:30 P.M. on a Friday or Saturday night. The furries and ferals will be out and about in good numbers prospecting for meals, assets, and stimulants at that time.

So they still have prospectors out there? Cool, just like the forty niners I'll bet.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Soggy here, again! Can't do much with my back acting up. Might try newing a hydraulic cylinder today. At least I'll be dry.

Halloween is SWMBO birthday. It's held right up there with Christmas and Thanksgiving in the holy-days calendar.

I'm finally figuring out how use FB Marketplace. That only took 6 years. I didn't even know it was there until last year! Located a couple lathes that I may pursue...and a Bridgeport mill...and a surface grinder. Oh, and a Licoln Idealarc 400 complete with a TIG setup! Only thing stopping me is $$$!!! That's always the way.
