so waht ya doin today?

Bret4207

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I can't believe it!!! I actually have a successful repair on my hands!!!!!! The 2007 Escape left front wheel bearing sounded like an ice crusher going down the road. I'd purchased an Astro Tools wheel bearing kit a few months back for the other Escape that needs 3 wheel bearings (last estimate I got was just north of $1500.00 to do that job!!!). I watched Eric O from South Main Auto do the job on YT a few times and did go the extra $11.00 to get a thrust bearing for the Astro kit off Ebay. Decided today was the day and jacked the front end up and even thought to get some jackstands under there. ("Safety 3rd" as Eric O says!) Amazingly, outside of the rusted in "C" clip, it went smooth as silk. Had a few "How am I gonna do that?" moments, but over all it went great! Of course I blew out my back trying to put the tire back on, but it got done. I didn't even have any extra parts left over afterwords!!! Say what you want about Astro type/HF tools off Ebay, but darn it they work! I figure I can do the other Escape pretty soon too and either sell it or sell the Burb. Of course fixing the other Escape and putting $100.00 worth of new wheel bearings in it will double it's value...

Now, where the heck did I put my heating pad?!!!

Made it relatively safely and fairly quickly through the tourist clogged streets, while doing my Monday retirement side job. Would've been safer if it hadn't've been for that jerk who swerved his beater round a car stopped at a red light and sped through my green light.

Seems courteous and responsible drivers have been replaced by the self-absorbed and the it's all about me. Oh, and the lady drivers eating spaghetti/Chinese noodles.

I'm seriously thinking of taking the house's roof-mounted M-61 Vulcan and mounting it on the truck's roof.

And leave the house undefended?
I would be looking for another Vulcan

This gets my vote as well. There is no such thing as "Too many Gatling systems".
Scepter for the feeding. They tend to be rather voracious eaters.
Thank you, gentlemen, for pointing out my big overlook. Too, Halloween is not far off and it's essential that the Vulcan is ready for the hordes of misbehaved gutter snipes.

That I have a goodly supply of 7.62 NATO and .308 brass, and .30 caliber cast bullets, I'll use the
mini-gun, instead.

That must be some neighborhood you live in, Michael. My horde of late October extortionists are easily placated with Milky Ways and Three Musketeers bars. Giving out righteous candy at Halloween helps keep the tires inflated on our cars and toilet paper out of our sycamore trees. Kalifornistan kids WILL TAX YOU given sufficient cause. Having been one myself, I know these things.

Michael, I think Dillon's new de-linker mechanism is capable of adjusting the rate of fire. Can tune down to 4500 RPM or so to save on ammo. Check it out.

Allen,
My wife's a sucker for the little fairy costumed gutter snipes, but I know their mischievous older brothers are crawling round looking to cut the trip wires and re-aim the claymores.

Ian,
Thanks for the information.

I'm a total sucker for them, too. One family four doors north has three little stairstep daughters that hit us just before sundown EVERY YEAR, the their Mom puts some major work into their costumes. They are about 4, 6, and 8 years old now, and absolutely adorable, just like our girls were.

One of the joys of living here is that there hasn't been a single costumed munchkin in the 9 years I've been here. Minimum one acre lot's with some 10-15 acres the houses are so spread out trick or treating would be an unproductive chore. Aw shucks.

Poor community planning resulted in the city's community center being build not too far distant from our quiet
cul-de-sac. The city puts on a Halloween program and the gutter snipes raid us both going and coming.

They bus them into our neighborhood, also.
I don't care. We enjoy Halloween and I don't mind spending a few extra bucks to make some kids happy.
I'm old enough to remember that last big popcorn ball in the bottom of the sack. All covered in Carmel, fudge and chocolate from candy that had come unwrapped.

Living 4 miles from town down an old pot holed gravel road sure saves on my sweets. Grandkids live 100 miles away, a pair east and a pair west. Wife still stocks up just in case. Some of it even lasts till dark.

Anywhere from 100 yards to 1/4 mile between houses here. Not to mention, some folks have 100 ft. to 500 ft. long driveways. No trick or treaters around here. I think the local township puts on a Halloween shindig for the kids.

Well this was yesterday’s post about a possibility of adding a nice S&W to small herd.

Well I’m going to text a guy in Palmer in half an hour and tell him I have the cash in hand and can be at his house in 6 hours (300 miles one way) for that beautiful 625 4” “1989” 45ACP that he has for sale, which has the box and all the fixings it came with. He has a guy that might have the cash but not till tonight or tomorrow, so I’m trying to pry it lose. It did not sound like he was committed yet. Sounds like the first owner fired half a box through it and the current owner has not fired it. I told him not to fire it as he may want to keep it.
I sold one of these in 1995 and I have regretted it every since. Nice guns. I really want this gun, but, hope I don’t have to bid it up to be be the third owner.

Well I did send him a text at 7:01 AM say that I had cash in hand and that I could be there in 6 hours. He answered that he would except and if I sent him a text from Healy he would meet us at the Talkeetna turn off. This was excellent news. The drive to Palmer and back would have been 620 miles round trip, which would be a long long day of driving. With him meeting us that would save about 170 miles of driving.
Anyway we meet him arriving with in about 5 minutes of each other. The original owner of this 625 Smith was the former Mayor of Valdez and then later Mayor Wasilla. I had known Bert from my 20 plus years in Valdez. Small world.

I will be posting this in a post I made about a NOE 452 304 casting I’m starting to test with my 22-4 model 1950. I have a LEE 452-255 and a NOE 230 grain I hope to try as well. So I’m hoping to get some trigger time in this weekend.
So here’s a couple of pictures

I had a 5” model 625 version 1989 back in the early 90’s but in a moment of of magnum desires, I sold it. Regretted it every since.
I would like to know how long this 625 was produced in the longer cylinder series, so if you know, please post it.

Saturday afternoon, the third guy seems to have fixed our intermittent Internet outages. They all used the same electronic gizmos, they all gazed into the box mounted to the back of the house, they all fiddled with the wires, disconnected some of them, made electronic gizmo measurements, and reconnected them. The last guy removed a filter and replaced it with the new-and-improved version, and said that should fix it. For three days he's been correct. Why the other two guys missed it is another of life's mysteries.
