Well, Another Clear Warm sunny Spring day today! Temps were in the mid 50's
Went up to my big round garden To spray the bad weeds while young and Clean up debris and old dead plants from last year!
Brought my Broccoli, Arugula & Kale seedlings to start hardening off! Night time temps are now staying in the Mid 30's and low 40's!
Also planted Kale Arugula and Leaf lettuce in my wife's big flower planter barrel on the patio! I well harvest them before she needs it in May!
Should have gone for a long walk, but my back was aching from the garden work so ended up with a Tylenol and a heat pad and watch the "soaps" with my wife! Sam's Club rotisserie Chicken for dinner! Sure do like them! Not overly seasoned or too salty!

bout ready to start some broccoli etc. type seeds.
i can usually get them out side in a cover about mid June.
the eggplants just barely popped up, the 2 tomato plants are maybe 2"s tall, and 5 of 6 bell peppers come up in both types i set in.
nothing is coming up in the last cup by the window even with the heat mat.
i'd sweat it but i know i can transfer a couple of the doubles here soon, and i didn't want near as many as come anyway, and i thought the saved ones would be a no go since they are like 3 years old.
i do have a few Pepper plants coming, the hatches are gonna give me maybe 3 plants, and the hot ones i saved some seeds from are looking like maybe 4.
forgot to mark what exactly they were though... LOL
doesn't much matter they'll most likely get cut up for the sweet/hot pickles anyway.

Took both doggies to the vet for annual checkups. Tried a new vet in town and after the first half hour or so in the exam room, wife and I looked at each other and said, "won't be coming back here". After all was said and done, doc came back into the exam room, sat down, started petting and loving the dogs and said, "do you have any questions or concerns?". Talked to us for at least 15 minutes and wasn't finished with us until we were finished with her. No overselling, didn't try to sell us anything extra.

I think she's our new vet.

My honey is on the way to the Grand Canyon with two of her cousins via AMTRAK. I'm trying to do Spring clean up before I want to start fishing so I can go guilt free. I worked in the prairie day before yesterday getting a large dead Elm that had to be dropped in the prairie last Fall and we didn't get it cleaned up before the first big snow. Of course it was Dutch Elm dead and exploded on impact and there are a bazillion little pieces I want to clean up in addition to the trunk and big limbs. The prairie is scheduled to be burned by the 15th of April and I did not want that Elm catching fire and smoldering forever as it is a bit punky.

Yesterday I tackled the gravel that ends up in the lawn from Winter snow plowing. This Winter was bad because snow came before the driveway was frozen, and late snow came after it was fully thawed. It isn't that I actually scape so much gravel as it gets rolled up in the wet snow and becomes glacial till after the thaw. I use a Stihl Kombi-Tool with a rotary paddle sweeper that does a splendid job of clearing the gravel and kicking my butt. I got the worst of it done, all of the lower driveway and the turn around out front of the shed. I have to wear hip boots as even knee boots end up with gravel in them. I sweated right through my trousers yesterday.

Then instead of taking a shower and a nap, I did my two mile walk which was actually refreshing and loosened up a whole bunch of muscles in my lower back and I ended up feeling pretty spry.

Got news from my boat dealer that my boat is scheduled to be built in the next couple of weeks, the outboards are here in the warehouse not on some container ship off the coast of California. The money for the entire rig and every accessory I desire is in the bank. All in all things are going pretty well if I don't pull a Bret, who by the way I worry about and pray for in my own way every time I log in here.

The damned rain is coming back this evening.
I need to get the lawn and garlic fertilized.
I also need to haul more wood from my wood pile to the shop.
The snow finally melted so that i could bring in some cedar boards to make next box kits for our Oregon Hunters Association youth day this June.
Another rainy day project.

I was told someone dropped off some logs at the City's compost site. I didn't even think the gates were open? They usually don't plow the snow, and we still got lots of snow. Photos to follow.

From this distance The logs look like a good and reasonable size, all ready cut, just load and go.
But I can't drive out there, that Drift may not look like much, but is hard as ICE and the back side is a drop off, so I'll walk out there with
my bucket of ashes (to dump) from the wood stove.

About 4 foot in dia.
5 gallon metal bucket shown for comparison

Met Long Hunter for lunch and had a nice visit.

On the way home an on coming car dinged a grey squirrel. It was crippled and scrambling about on the road. I instinctively swerved to avoid it. In retrospect I should have deliberately crushed it. It was bloody and dragging itself off the road as I watched in my rearview mirror. Second one I've seen this happen to in 3 days. I feel bad for crippled animals, unlikely yo survive, in pain, with no help. They are out licking salt residue off the roadway and at a distance look so flat that people don't realize it is a live squirrel, if they notice at all.

Some of the wife's meds are now currently unattainable. With spring coming I am worried for her breathing issues.
Every one of my kids grades dropped a grade this 9 weeks. And he failed English and history. Puting him in position, that if he does not pick things up, he will get held back a year. Then kicked out of trade school, back to regular high school. Tried to warn him he was stretching things a bit thin.
Plus dog got into some cookies and is having a seizure.
Found all this out 5 minutes before time to leave for work. First day of my 4- 12's week.
So dump this all on me then send me off before it can process.
Geez.

a good 2-3" slice off that one would make a beautiful table.
half hollowed and laid flat on one of those other smaller logs would make a great bird bath in the garden too.
i been looking for a couple like those to do just that lately.

been snowing most all day again.
the city decided to finally come and get their giant ice wall out of the middle of the street.
the grader driver told me they were gonna clean off the drains.

they got within about 3 foot of them before the Ice wall stopped him and the wheeled dozer they brought down to do the job.
i guess he figured out why i laughed, and wished him good luck when he said what they were doing.
at least they got the street cleaned up.

Another Great day, Highs in the mid 60's! I have so much to do...... But I haven't been out for a walk in weeks! So That won out! Only got in 2 miles before my legs and back started aching! I'm way out of shape this past winter because of all the ice! just couldn't walk anywhere! Rain expected tomorrow but off & on, So may get the tractor started and the trailer tire fixed!
I have so much yard work ahead of me and I'm pretty confident that The Cool weather Spring crops can be planted! Fingers crossed.
Just too tired of paying Grocery Store prices for mixed greens that I can easily grow at this time of the year! And of better quality!

Rough day here.

Dr visit for wife was struggle. She can no longer walk. She can not step up to allow me to load her into jeep. I got her in but tweaked my back doing so. We have waited three months I wasn't gonna miss this appointment.
Got a diagnosis. I was as prepared as I could. I dont think she understands. It is a rapidly progressive palsy. Terminal with in ten years. As in no one has lasted ten yrs from diagnosis ten years.

Then I had therapy which always leaves me ache sore & tired. Got her to bed and settled. Watched tv with her till she dozed off.

Im just settling down, but somehow I am not sleepy tonight.
