Back from camping and long range shooting.

Got home a few hours ago from our long range shooting trip. A couple buddies made it out there to shoot with us a bit. I was rather disappointed in my performance at the 1760 yard target. We still have to go through all the video but I don't think I even got one hit. :sigh:I was able to shoot my 6.5 CM out to 1250 yards. I have only shot this rifle at 100 prior to this shoot. I dialed in 11.4 mils and took a shot that went high. 11.3 mils with shot number two was a hit. I made several more hits on that target and was able to shoot 1000 yards steel as well.

The good news. I got some REALLY cool drone footage of our shooting lane. We have targets set up that you will see at 1000, 1250, and 1760 yards. You will get a feel for the lay of the land. Fiver will be board as he knows this kind of country well, as does Rick. I know a few other guys here will know it as well but I really thought some of you back East and Midwest fellas might like to see what the Central part of Oregon looks like. This is all public BLM land by the way.

So. My brother.:angry::angry::angry:
He puts a cold bore shot with his .338 Lapua on target at one mile. Follows it up with two more consecutive shots that measure 10"
The fourth shot dropped low to open the group up to just under 18"
Shot five missed. Color a big brother impressed. Four shot group at one mile, sub MOA.

All in all a fun long weekend with family and friends.

It will take a few days to hash through all the video from four different video cameras and edit it down but I will post a link to the video on this post when it is ready.

My buddies had a couple interesting rifles. Some AR's chambered in .30-06, .22-250, and .308. Lots of high end glass etc...

Stay tuned...…..

I can't stress enough how much work it took to map out a clear lane for shooting out to 1760 yards. We put a lot of time and effort into this spot. We did it all with one guy holding a big piece of cardboard and the other with a laser range finder leap frogging 500 yards at a time while keeping in a straight line. We have since double checked the yardage with both GPS and a better laser range finder. All distances are accurate.
I really can't wait to show you guys this video. I hope it turns out well.

Did you need to do any tree or brush removal to get a clear shot?

You really should verify it with your HF 1 mile tape measure.

Having cut two shooting lanes through dense brush recently, I can appreciate the difficulty. Drones are your friend, and Google earth is indispensable.

only one way to remove sage brush, but the BLM likes to mail you a really large bill if you use it.
drop some load details for the various rounds used if you can.

What rifle in .338L. That is an excellent rifle, great ammo, a solid, quality scope and a
heck of a shooter!

My brother has a Savage, piece of cake shooting to 750, his longest
range in Ga that I have used. He has no trouble hitting a steel human sihouette, like an
IPSC target at 1000 M at a military range which permits civilians on alternate Saturdays or
something like that.

338.
it's just a drop off... make this shoot, and bring it back when your done thing.
I'm half tempted to take it deer hunting this fall with some well reduced loads.

I assume you drove to the sight where the targets are placed? Carrying the plates and frames to hang them very far would remove much of the fun from the endeavor.
Are the targets taken down when done and gone?

Oh, and damn fine shooting. Your brother should be very happy.
