Awesome guy. When he was talking about Maple Syrup last Spring, reached out and asked if he knew how I could get some local stuff (We don't have that good stuff way down here in AL!). He was extremely gracious/helped me acquire a gallon, even when he wasn't feeling well. I didn't realize he was fighting Cancer til that time. He really took care of me/sent the syrup himself. I will never forget his kindness and help, with something he really didn't have to do. Even got and passed on to me a discount from the farmer. All around outstanding guy, and I will miss him here.

I knew he was fighting cancer, and I know that we are all mortal, but it was a real gut punch to hear that he may be nearing the end of his journey. I've never met him, but admired and enjoyed his contributions both here and at the other site, when his handle was Trooper Bret.
I also don't know what to say, other than Thanks Bret!! God Speed!

If anyone knows his last name, you may be able to find contact info for him by searching on the web. I know he lives up in the St. Lawrence River valley based upon his forum profile and he has mentioned the weather in that area more than once. He could be near Oswego. Google his name and the various people finder services will generally show the nearest city/town. That should help narrow it down. Hopefully he's not a Smith. Although Brett is not a really common first name.

I've tried to make a post in this thread a half dozen times today, and backed out of making a post each time, until now. Not sure what to say?
I did mail a card today. I had a heck of a time putting words down there also...basically a half dozen meaningful sentences, that when strung together probably reads like the rambling of a schizophrenic.

His name is Bret Martin. He bought a bunch of stuff off me that I was selling for my late friends wife this past Fall.
He raises Lamb and Sheep and I eat Lamb and Sheep ;) so we had that in common and we discussed that often!
I remember every time I posted that I made some kind of "Lamb dish", he would thank me on behalf of the "Lamb produces of America"!:)
He is a great hardworking guy & it was hard seeing him slow down in his recent posts......God Speed!

I just wrote a card to him and found it difficult to see what I was writing with my eyes tearing up like that.
He will be missed!

I was just wondering about him the other day, because I hadn't seen him post lately.

Then I noticed he "liked" someone else's post within a day of when I was looking and I breathed a sigh of relief. This is especially sad news after I thought he might be doing OK.

People are talking about Brett in the past tense. I think that's a bit premature.

I spent some time searching his name in NY. Only hit I got that was promising was in a town NE of Rochester called Walworth. There was a phone number listed. I had gotten the impression that he lived further north in NY, up towards Oswego. I don't remember why I have that impression.

I did check obits for his name and nothing in that area. I will say that there is no shortage of Brett Martins in the world.

I found a number for Brett. I just called and did not get an answer, but did get a voicemail machine. It had the standard greeting. I left a message leaving my name and number and that the members here were concerned for his health and also missed him. If I get a call back, I'll post the results here.
