cultivated meat

"Special effects maestro Douglas Trumbull’s directorial debut feels more prescient with each passing year, which isn’t a good thing. “Silent Running” takes place in the not-too-distant future, where life on Earth has ceased to exist. Dern plays a botanist trying to keep the last existing vegetation alive in a space station greenhouse with the help of some robots. When he’s ordered to destroy the plants to make room for cargo, he rebels against the hierarchy to save nature. The film rises and falls on Dern’s capable shoulders, who’s often the only human onscreen. Deric Washburn, Michael Cimino and Steven Bochco penned the screenplay."

"Soylent Green" was a Charleston Heston movie about over population of humans, where to survive they turned dead humans into food.

Cultivated meat could save Earth. If we produce meat in laboratories we can euthanize all animals, fish, and wildlife except for a small quantity of stock to serve as genetic donors. No animals mean that the methane levels from herds of wild and domestic animals will be virtually eliminated. This alone will save the ozone layer, along with eliminating all methods of public conveyance. Plus, since we don't need to set aside habitat for animals we have more room to build apartments for migrants to go freely where they want. We could support perhaps 20 to a hundred times the population Earth can currently support.

Sounds right but I thought it was a book. Whatever, it's been like 40 years!

I can' remember the title but there was a recent Matt Damin movie where he was a stranded astronaut who had to grow enough food to survive until a rescue ship could get there.

I'll have to check out Silent Running, sounds interesting and I'm something of a Bruce Dern fan. Always felt he's a better actor than he is given credit for.

But he killed John Wayne in the "The Cowboys". From what I've read that pretty much did in his career. It seems Hollywood isn't about talent but about being "liked".

That's what Bruce said, but he had a pretty successful career. Best remembered for playing slime balls like that, but he's good enough to do other stuff. Check out his short, but significant role in All the Pretty Horses or the movie, Nebraska.

He plays a character in All the Pretty Hor see s who is almost God like. The main character, simple country boy, has just been though months of traumatizing experiences including having to kill a man in a knife fight and is in desperate need of redemption, and Bruce Dern plays the sympathetic judge who provides it.

ItS a great movie based on an even better book which was the first in a trilogy. I really wish someone would makes movies that good from the other two. I'm a big fan of Cormac Macarthy's writing, always a good read.

Yep, Bruce Dern in "Nebraska" was a great movie. I like the Indie/Arthouse type movies.
.
I also loved his rendition of the character, the ex-General Sanford "The Confederate" Smithers in "The Hateful Eight"

In getting back to OP, I just had a thought.
If someone was a chicken farmer, or had a chicken farm, would he be considered being someone that produces cultivated meat.
I doubt the term "chicken ranch" would be accurate, being that usually pertains to an entirely different enterprise.
