We have a double 20 gauge flintlock I have used more for shooting crows than anything else. I rate 50-50 with it. Never have taken a double as the smoke screen messes me up. So I just try singles. And that average is about as good as I get with crows passing by with any shotgun.
The river bottoms I hunt is private land and I was the only one there. So I used recurve bows. Less Hasle with the state and quiet as can be.
But when we get to Arizona I do think the first few seasons I am putting the smoke poles back to work.
