Funny "Mold of the Day"

Bret would cobble it together and make it work.

Ian would rebuild it from the bottom up and in the end have an entirely from scratch mould. That is after he made a cherry, rebuilt his mill, built a heat treat furnace, and mined his own lead. And that was before breakfast.

Yeah Ian’s writing alone makes me tired. Good writing, I just don’t have that much energy.

There were a lot of moulds like that listed at one time. Originally listed at primo mould prices, the prices dropped until they practically ended up giving them away. I suppose such butchery makes sense to somebody.

And I wish I had even half of Ians energy and enthusiasm. Much less his knowledge.

"Nine bucks for a set of mould handles? CeeTee pliers are only $2.50, I'll show them!"

"Ma!! look how smart I am!"

Bubba finally found a use for those short tong handles. Nickel rod, crackerbox welder, problem solved.

I must admit to also being a card-carrying member of the International Order of Bubbas. I made my first set of Lyman single-cavity handles from Horror Freight slipjoint pliers and my first Lee commercial handles from a two-cavity set modified by welding on longer tongs cut from a Chevy leaf spring. I may or may not have had to overhaul the old Lincoln "tombstone" welder by replacing both leads, rebuilding the rotary contact switch, unfreezing the cooling fan bearings first ....

No, I did, true story, long ago when I was tool poor and first starting out. Tractor Supply had what I needed to fix the gifted welder, but no Lee commercial mould handles. I was in a hurry to use the mould, what can I say?

I know I'm repeating myself, but tools, not guns, should be licensed... especially WELDERS!!
Well, mine is like the little plastic cars kids use in the driveway, so I get a pass on the license.

But then I've seen some scary YouTube videos of adults driving those little plastic cars...o_O

Strikes me interesting that those "pliers" mold handles have some similar lines to a set I have on a double cavity H&G mold. Of course the H&G have wooden handles, but the metal parts are similar in form.

I saw the hot handles and used some broken push broom handle to stop that going in .........

All of this still doesn't touch "then we went to this gun show . I was huh look at that they makes handles for bullet moulds . Here for 2 yr I've been casting with gloved hands " . As told over there many yr ago .......I don't remember by who but I laughed too hard about it .

Was it Walt Melander that used to cut a mold, then pour the alloy while holding the mold closed in his hand to test the dimensions of the casting?
