Getting started with the 300blk ...

Those look nice!. I knew about that option, and I did the same "trick" with a Ruger 10/22 where I permanently pined/soldered a barrel extension that goes over the smaller Form 1 22cal suppressor. In fact, it was the commercial version that gave me the idea about the "long" barrel muzzle brake.

That customized 10/22 was the first rifle my daughter shot with a suppressor, and it is the rifle my daughter tells me its 'her' rifle. I could not and did not wanted to argue that one, so I simply bought parts and made another 10/22 rifle instead :)

Ian, remember this post?

I am taking my daughter to the range tomorrow, so I was cleaning/checking out "her" 10/22. This time I remembered to take a photo to share with you the "trick" of the short barrel and the permanent barrel extension ...

Put an adjustable block to fine-tune this for subsonics for my daughter:

I tried various powders (using QuickLoad as a guide for port pressure) and I am really close to 100% cycling with subsonics. Man, so quiet and smooth. I had a 1-6x scope, but she wanted a little bit more magnification, so I moved my 10x SS SWFA scope to her rifle, so I am hoping my daughter will like the adjusted setup :)

Tried cfe pistol in my 1:8 10" BO pistol, like it. Cycles and ejects fine with 145 & 170 PB. Non are sub but 170 drops pretty fast @50 yds.

Wow, fast shipping!. Got these today:

Never tried plated bullets before, but since these are going to be fun/plinking bullets at subsonic speeds, I figured I try it once, right?

I took approximately 10% (about a 100 bullets) and carefully weighted them. The little silver "thing", which is a bare LED emiter on a small PWB represents 150.0gr. Every "line" is 0.1gr variation:

I am of course going to try them regardless, but maybe it is me being more picky since I joined this forum, but I guess I was hoping/expecting less variation. What do you guys think?

Yup, these are strictly for plinking, so I am hoping they will be OK for that purpose. Here is a larger sample from last night:

I am keeping 149.4-150.4gr and the rest will be used for making dummy rounds, testing COL, magazine fit, etc..

Just about a perfect Standard Distribution. The way you lay it out really shows that.

Yes - definitely :)

I will load some up soon and try them on my 300BLK pistol. We have an upcoming Boy Scout shooting sports campout coming out in December, and besides my daughters suppressed 10/22 which everyone loved last time, I would like to also have some plinking rounds from this suppressed 300BLK pistol as well for kiddos and adults to try out as well.

Since we don't want the kiddos to go down range to reset targets, and to make things go faster, last time I welded some swinging targets, a small dueling post, and a gong for the longer shots, BUT this year I want to make these to have as well:

I "just" came back from Lowe's where I bought the 3x t-posts today. I already have two static AR500 steel targets: a "large" one 8" dia, and a tiny one at 4" in diameter for the "tough" target to hit.

Hoping we get good weather for the Boy Scout campout!

I think that is really neat! I would have a few extra stove bolts on hand, it looks like the only thing that might get damaged. I'm sure you've already thought about that. :)

I also hope you get good weather.

I've only shot Berry's 45-230-rn but got 3" groups of five easily at 100 yards with my DI-45 carbine. I didn't weigh them.

If you really want to be disappointed, weight sort a 100-count of boxed hunting bullets from Speer or Hornady. They still shoot pretty well though.

If you're having cycling problems with 150s while staying subsonic (no surprise there), taking out all but one buffer weight will help, but don't forget to put them back in if you switch to heavier bullets or you may have problems with the bolt locking into battery on its own. Polishing and slightly rounding the hammer nose and using lught grease on the buffer soring and bolt carrier guides in the upper can help an under-gassed AR cycle. Don't get crazy modifying the hammer nose or you can get doubles-triples....ask me how I know and how fast I ripped out those parts and torched them up.

those plated bullets will do a lot more than they indicate.
follow the general cast bullet rules with them.

just as an example of what you can do with them.
I shoot the few I have in my 308.
they are 311 diameter 150grs. marked for the X39
I shoot them in the 308 on top of 36grs of 4895.
pretty sure I'm far exceeding their 1900 fps limit, but.... well you know, fitment counts.

Almost done with the target holder - just need to remove rust and paint tomorrow. This is the little one, the 4" dia:

Spring not adjusted here yet - just trying out the parts:

And Keith, yup, I got two extra bolts ready, and one extra fully prepared post for if/when these fail while at campout ;)

I use the same style plate hangers. The bolts actually hold up pretty good unless they take a direct hit. I shot mine a lot with 308, 260 rem, 5.56, and 6.5 Grendel.

I did start going through a lot of bolts when the 310gr 44 magnums and 400gr 45-70’s hit them. The splatter from those two will shear the bolt head.

I need to find some grade 8 carriage bolts.

I use grade 8 hex head bolts. I had trouble with washers until I made some .200 thick from O1. Not hardened but it sure holds up better that lesser material.

I was not able to go to the range to day to try out, but put the lighter (standard weight) recoil buffer in the 300blk pistol, and assembled some loads with H110 to try out with the plated bullets. Like it has so far, my pistol feeds anything and everything, including these flat points:
11787

For subsonic speeds I am trying 9.9, 10.1, and 10.3gr
11786

I found some online sources that said a COL of 2.000" would work, but my pistol feeds/ejects dummies perfect at 2.020":
11788

Hope to try these soon to see if they work :)
