Looks like it pretty much has to center up nicely. I do kinda worry about lube.....but I am
no rifle cast bullet expert, and I hear all you guys who ARE saying one groove or two is fine, plus then
there is the magical BLL, too.

Looks nice, would this tend to be an "any gun, any cartridge" sort of design with the long
taper?

Ben In the drawing in post #1 I saw that only the base drive band and the next band measure to .31. And all of the bands above it progressively get smaller in dia.
Would there be an advantage. To making the first 4 bands to .31 and then start decreasing the measurements incrementally to the nose.
The measurements that you had your mold cut to. Are they the same as what the original mold was designed at?

The diameters of my new Accurate 175 gr. from the Brass , 2 Cav. mould and the diameters on my original SAECO # 315 are VERY VERY VERY close.

Personally, for me, this tapered design shoots so well out of all my rifles, I'm afraid to change a thing.

Redesigning the design to accommodate a different taper isn't really necessary, it shoots very well the way it is, the secret is in fact that taper. If you want to add anymore .31 diameter bands they need to be in the direction of the gas check, meaning add more weight to the bullet, keep the taper exactly the same but add more bullet that goes inside the case.

Like Ben said, there are some designs either by luck or know how, that just shoot. These designs should be left unmolested, as they do their job extremely well.

I figured the design was made by better and more knowlegably persons than I. But like all novists I wondered what if.
