Or, is some cases your wife or girl friend. Friend of mine had a little 10-22 with a couple of 30rd mags a number years ago. My wife and I went with to the range one Sat morning. My friend's wife would empty one mag before he could reload the other, and this was a lady who hated firearms before they were married. Ever seen a 10-22 with a barrel too hot too touch and emitting the odor of something burning.

Life is much simpler and cheaper often times when you're a Fud in some peoples eyes.

To keep squirrels from inhabiting the space under a shed in the back yard I blocked off the openings with hardware cloth. The bottom is buried in a trench to keep them from digging under. I finished Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon we are sitting outside enjoying the nice weather. Two squirrel chasers are with us. A squirrel ran into the yard, in sight of the dogs, only to find her access to the safe space blocked. The dogs thought it was their lucky day and squirrel fever ensued, but they were not quick enough.

You simply cannot tell me that squirrels don't know exactly what they are doing when they torment dogs. "Torment" probably isn't accurate, I think both the dogs and the squirrels enjoy it.

My paternal grandfather had a "squirrel dog."

I was never sure when he was puling my leg, so I'd always ask my grandmother later.

"Nope," she said," he's not lying. The dog would take advantage of the fact that the squirrels would sooner stay out and torment a dog than dive for cover into a hole."

Turns out the dog would work the squirrel around to the side of the tree where my grandfather sat with his Model 12. The squirrel would be so rapt in the pleasure of screwing with a dog's brain that he'd completely miss the fact that a hunter was standing there with a shotgun or a 22.

The Chabot family always had a pack of beagles. One in particular was a fine squirrel dog. That beagle would not run / play with them much, but get them tree'd and sort of rest awhile "sounding" for someone to get ready. Then when hunter was in place that beagle would bark and leap and cause a good ruckus getting that squirrel to move out in the open and chatter back.
That beagle always got some tasty fried morsels to enjoy later on.
Was never a lead fox hunter though. Just a rear pack runner. But squirrels was a whole different job.
