Just giving you ideas to keep yourself busy and out of bars until you have grandkids to entertain you....:)

Here's a .270 load that hit just over 2750 fps with a 150-grain cast bullet and 22" barrel, and about 50 fps over max copper-jacketed velocity. Once the base starting load was established and worked up slightly over a chronograph, I backed the powder down and used the buffer, getting about a 105% total volume density with the powder settled in and buffer sifted in through a funnel, then I worked the proportions of powder/buffer around (keeping same overall density) until I hit a sweet spot.

hmm.
my first G.S. was born at the end of September.

here is a little secret about cast bullets and powder.
you can use the same loads as a smaller case with the same bore diameter and get the same velocity's.
in the Lapua's case, loads for the 338 win mag or 338 federal will work, usually with a filler to replace the extra case volume.
I use the same loads in my 223/22-250/&220 swift, and we all use the same loads in our 308 and 30-06.
I would bet that 35-40grs of 3031/4895/4064 and a 200-250gr bullet on top of a dacron filler would put you in the 1800-2,000 fps zone.
you could even go with something like rl-19 at 47grs and a 2gr tuft of Dacron for about 2300 fps with a 240-255gr bullet, and there is always the old standby of 10grs of unique for 1&200 yd shooting.

I realized I had yet to put out a public Thank You. Lino arrived and all is well.
Congratulations on the Grandchild. Our two really brighten our lives.

SMac contacted me and wanted to give some Lino away as well. I thought this was a very generous offer! He asked that I pick another winner and JWFilips was the name I grabbed! Good for you Jim!
