Martini Cadet

The .30 Badger conversation got me to considering this Martini Cadet project rifle in .357 I bought about a year ago. No sights and gonna need anew stock and forende, but the trigger pull on it is pretty good. Haven't shot it, but all seems to work as it should.

I figure a receiver sight for a flat sided lever gun oughta work and I can figure out a nice brass bead front, my preference for iron sights. WOuld be anice, slim trim walk about gun.

I think John Taylor use to do such work, but could the current barrel be fitted with a liner and chambred to .30 Badger? I'm sure the action is strong enough and relining .22 barrels seems to be a bread and better task for gun smiths.

If I was smart, I'd just have MGM make aConteder barrel for my carbine I have, but that would be less fun, I think.

Thoughts?

What's "SMART" got to do with it?;)

I love my Contender Carbines, but they're still not as cool as a Martini.

Been down this road.

First, shoot it with a factory 357 equalizing pressure load. If the primer doesn't crater, you are good. If it does you need to have the firing pin bushed.

Second, does the ejector nicely pull out the fired case? If the conversion has not been down well, it will hang up and need attention.

Third, it is much cheaper to have a gunsmith fit a take off 30 caliber barrel than having one relined. Relining only saves the marking of the old barrel.

Best of luck with this project!!!

get it drilled out the back so you can take the action out and clean from the rear.
a Parkerhale no 7 or 7a fits perfectly on the cadet.
I’ve seen Allen screw heads ,but prefer the look of a thumb screw to replace the action retention split pin.

Send that useless 357 mag barrel to me, I could use a new tomatoe stake.

Make it into switch barrel so you can have 357 mag, 300 blk short rimmed, 257 mag, what’s the 22 cal one?
