I have been around them in the Wind River range in Wyoming a number of times. The scariest was when I
was "cleverly" sneaking up on a nice big bull with a long telephoto, taking pix and keeping trees between me
and it, and I knew a large female was about 100 yds the other way through some dense aspens....and heard a branch break
behind me.
Wazzzat?? I turned slowly, and there was the 5 ft-at-the-shoulder,
gangly "Junior Bullwinkle" all dumb and happy,
sneaking up on ME, with a curious "hey, I never saw one of you before, what are you?" look on his face .....10-15
yds behind me.
I vacated the area very promptly before Junior got frightened and screamed "Mommie, Daddie, help save me
from the mean person!" and I got in WAY deep doodoo. Within about 20 seconds I was 100 yds away in the
precisely perpendicular direction to a line between Junior and Dad. Max distance from both per stride.
Don't frighten the meeses.
