Judging by the particular direction in which it casts out of round, I'd have to say Lyman, newer than 2001. Without cheating I don't recall the mould number but I do remember a double-crimp-groove version of the 358421.

More opinions on this bullet ......................... ? ? ;););)

And yes, it is a little bit out of round.
This one is sized .3595 "
They look MUCH better once they come out of a .3575 " sizer.

Blaster,

You get the cigar ! !

A bare bottom Lyman 358156.
I had a two cavity Lyman and decided to remove the gas check shanks on both cavities.

I'm anxious to get out and try some of these.

Thompson bullets are pretty obvious. Well, they are to me.

Nice plain base, should do quite well.

Have a double cav, in that bullet. Don't shoot many of them as I have learned over the years
that Elmer was right most of the time, and GC was not needed in 357M. Will be anxious to hear
your results Ben.

Paul,

I don't shoot " high intensity " 357 Mag. loads anymore.
I might get into the 1,050 - 1,100 fps speed zone, but that is about as far as I'll be going.

1,100 fps will accomplish just about anything I want done with the 357 Mag. right now.

These should work just fine.

I agree with your logic Ben. The exception in 357 is when I load for my 94, and
want full power loads. Even then, that is very very seldom. The older I get the more
recoil sensitive am in both rifle and hand gun. And the fact that I wear hearing aids
means I can do without excessive reports as well.

A plain-base #358156 would be a GREAT design.

I still run some intrepid loads in 357 Magnum--that IS why I bought the Bisley Blackhawk x 357, after all. So my current 2-banger Lyman tool will stay in OEM form for the foreseeable future. I am fooling around with the idea of a 357 Mag rifle, and as much as I might lust after one of the '73 repros in that caliber......I'm not sure that a steady diet of SAAMI-spec 357 Mag would be a good idea. Some of my Doug Wesson-level 357 stuff I run through the BisHawk would surely do it zero good whatsoever. Those get 1550 FPS in its 7.5" barrel, so an 18"-20" tube might approach 2000 FPS. So, I think the '73 repro concept gets a big NYET, TOVARISCH.

Would love to get one of the Miroku 92 variants, carbine or short rifle. Marlin 1894C has been out-of-print for 4+ years. I have even considered the Ruger 77-357 for this tasking. All are scarce-to-unobtainium status.

I have even considered the Ruger 77-357

Careful on this one AL.

Results are " spotty " at best with this one.

I really like the Rossi Stainless , old model, Model 92, 357 Magnum.

I wasn't too crazy about the new model with the safety in front of the hammer. I had hoped that some day I'd find on old model like the original 92' Winchester.

As luck would have it, I found a nice clean old model at the Birmingham Gun Show, the owner said the trigger and action were smooth, it was accurate and fed 38 Specials and 357 Magnums equally well. He is right. I came home and put some 38 Spec. and 357 Mags. in the tubular mag. and they fed very smoothly. This one is an old model about 10 or so yrs. old that didn't have the funky looking safety built into the bolt of the gun in front of the hammer......I think that is an eye sore .

Looks like I'm in business.

I have tons of 38 Spec. brass and 357 brass and MANY MANY MANY MANY bullet molds for this one.

When you cycle this one, it feels like it is full of hot butter.

Have never shot a Rossi Ben, but that one looks quite nice. I love my 94 Win 357 w/long bbl
that I bought from a friend about 8+ years ago for $300.00 after he found out is was not legal
for deer in Colorado. Saw one at a Lincoln gun show about 2yrs ago for 750.00. Probably
even higher now.

Ben--

Yessir, I've read about the 77/357 foibles, esp. the magazine foul-ups. Kinda off-putting.

Those Brazilian Win 92s can be very nice. Buckshot brought over a couple of his last week, both are nice examples with smooth levering and decent triggers. Those Lawyer Levers atop the bolt won't last 15 minutes at my house. They are like selling a Harley-Davidson with an outrigger. Preposterous!

Oh, yes.....the Old Bard definitely called it in Act I of "Merchant of Venice"--"The first thing--hang all the lawyers!"

Ahem.

Have you run the #358156--bare-bottom or checked--through that 92? I have successfully run #429244 in my Win-oku 92, and it shot well. #429421 seated to crimp in its groove is too long to feed in Magnum brass. Seated to crimp at top of front drive band fed OK, shot OK.
