On the way to the processor.

Great Northerns and catalini(sp) beans are larger.Navy's are smaller, which is what I'm putting in a killer Italian bean soup.

Next up is crab claw soup, lose the beans, potatoes, onions only.Slam some Old Bay on it.Then Deer steaks right off the grill.Sprinkled with Old Bay.

This AM, I went out bow hunting, the first time since I took the 7 point to the processor. Half hour, in the same tree stand, a twin to the one I took, walked down the trail and presented me with a broadside shot in the very same spot. He had a couple of broken off points, also. Had already made up my mind I wasn't going to take him. The rut is just about to start and I didn't want to use my last buck tag, this early in the season. Have four doe tags, but haven't seen a doe, yet.

Good story...how's the weather?

30 years ago,a cpl of us are sitting drinkin beer on our loading dock.Somebody says something about bow hunting.I go off on a tangent about bows vs handguns vs long guns.

To prove the point, there's an absolute Pope $ Young monster in the field behind the shop.Him,and his younger brother are staring at each other...think 125-150 yds. This is all "real time".

So I'm like...."you mean that"...pointing at those two. We're still sitting there, marveling at how stupid cool these animals are.

Out walks a ....3 1/2 y.o. ,8 pointer. This is better than any movie....the subordinate walks out,the larger of the two bruisers' looks at him...and as nonchalant as I'm writing this,turns...and head butts him, literally knocking him to the ground.Never missing a beat?

So,missing antlers?You've got some scrappers.There's a "big brother" in them woods,just sayin.

Was 67 degrees with a light breeze. It's 78, on it's way to the mid 80's with 10-20 mph winds. Been that way, the past week. Newspaper said, we've had the warmest October on record. One of the reasons, I've not hunted, till today and only in the mornings. Forecast is for a cool down, starting tonight......highs in the low 70's.

There are usually 4 big bucks running together on my property, before they split off. Been that way, every year, the last four. Seen at least three of them, together, in the late Summer.

Make him work for his. There is always an element of luck.

I don't think he has my patience.......I've already got a minimum of 36 hours in, at 3 hour increments.......seen coyote and bobcat in bow range. I live for this time of the year.

You sound like my father. He just loved being in the woods. Cold, wet, whatever he just loved it.
Some people have that ability, I know I don't. Getting better with age but still not where he is.

"Saving one for Rick"....

That's going above and beyond. If,"Rick" ain't there, then what the heck does he have to do with it?

Considering I don't know Rick...who very well be deserving a nice trophy,so no offense.

I'll never forget our shop sending out a hopped up recurve, that ended up getting a st record .The guy was an absolute nube.Oh,it was a badass bow but, give me a break.

That would be me. I have attempted to perforate Bambi on John's (Winelover) property the last few years. Bambi explained that he would prefer not participating. Perhaps this year he'll have a change of heart.

Bambi generally avoids contact with people intent on killing him. Wise move.
Rick is quite capable of perforating Bambi should the occasion present itself.

Is Rick holding out for a buck or looking for a nice eating doe?

Sounds like he has some uncooperative deer at his place. You'd think the guy would have one tied to a tree waiting for you.

Winelover must not be a good rodeo cowboy.

I told him he had nothing to worry about, told him we would even invite him over for dinner.

Modern gun just opened and only for a few days, will return soon. I've never bow hunted and don't own a smoke pole. If I get out this year it will be with the 7 1/2 inch Bishawk in 45 Colt. Not so much a matter of patience but of knees, old age ain't for sissies.

Get some new knees, seems to be working well for winelover!

What load are you running in the 45 Colt? I bet it is that MP 45-270 SAA clone and some H110 or 2400.

MP clone of the RCBS 270 SAA. N-110. Don't think I've ever owned a can of 2400.

Damn, forgot N110.
Never owned 2400? I use the heck out of it. Then again, much of that is in rifle cartridges with case.
I have used a little N110 but not enough to really have strong opinions either way.

N-110 is a stick powder, easy to ignite, clean and consistent. Best groups I ever shot out of a revolver was a 41 mag FA using N-110. Worked up loads at 150 meters, most of my rifles scoped from the bench wouldn't do what that FA did.

Deer tend to move around a lot more when the leaves are still on the trees. By the time Modern Gun opens, the trees are bare and the rut is over. Would you show your face with people trying to perforate you?

Yesterday's buck walked directly under my tree stand......I could have jumped on it back, if I was a young and reckless rodeo cowboy. He never had a clue I was there.

if you decide to drop out of the tree on one I hope you have 3-4 separate camera's running to catch all the action.

in my younger day's I got assigned to go in the stall and haul this old ram out and put it in the truck.
the thing was about 10-11 years old and looked to be on it's last legs.
in I went and out I come, back in I went and proceeded to get beat down even worse.
I eventually wore him down and drug him out by the back legs.
if he would have been mine I would have ended the whole thing on the spot.
