I figured it was you,Rick.....stumbling for descriptor as these things happen, could be anyone.

I say, carry a running chainsaw, preferably one needing rings, and a .44.All this sneaky sneak stuff does is scare them off.

Fire up the tractor or a chainsaw and they are smart enough? to know you've got other things on your mind.

When you kill Bambi, try to get those inner tenderloins out quickly after gutting. They're so small, and once the cavity gets exposed to air....they dry up.Hang the deer,if you must, but get them inner TL's over a fire, haha.

Passed up a different 6 point this AM. Had only one point broke off with a more symmetrical and taller rack. Body was smaller, than expected with no evidence of rutting.

Seen some movement, in the distance, looking into the early sun rise. Grunted, once, got into the position, I expected him to come. Before I knew it, he right in front and looking up at me......I thought, busted. Sat motionless and after awhile he got comfortable and began milling around, trying to located the nonexistent rival. Got directly behind me and then came back in view before walking away, opposite from which he came. That makes a minimum of 5 different bucks, I've seen tree sitting. None of the big bruisers, yet....maybe tomorrow.

What's that old TV show or movie? The line goes...."I love that kinda talk".

If that buck came in on a rope, you definitely got some "scrappers"!

We had an absolute monster 15 or so years ago.I saw him,once....had a bloom'n bush/tree of a rack.A cpl other sitings confirmed his presence.Definitely the biggest deer any of us ever saw "live".

He lived in basic obscurity.Meaning,we all knew kinda, where he was(lived behind a horse barn of a neighboring property)....and we'd talk the talk. But,he never would show during legal hours, other than the one time I seen him.He father'd right many.

Just sayin, you might have a g-daddy at ya'lls spot? Are you carrying binos?Look deeper into the edges and shadows.Another idea is to not always take the same route to your stand. We've observed,"learned behavior" from animals when, over years, guys take the same travel paths.

The seconds they stare you down seem like an eternity. Not getting busted in that moment sets men apart from the boys. Well done!

Had a similar experience with a 10 pointer several years ago while bow hunting. He hung up @70yds. Stared me down, head bobs, hoof stomps, then went back to feeding. He meandered about for an hour never getting close enough for an arrow. Then he bedded down about 95yds from my tree. It was brutal...so close but, so far.

The largest live wild whitetail I'd ever been inside 50yds on netted me a miss fired muzzle loader and a giant buck trotting away with my heart, pride, & calmness in toe.

My wife & I were trying for a real bruiser. Seen him 3 times. Could have taken him at 300 yd but, passed trying to get my wife on him @ her range of 200yd. The next day she sat in the blind & called him as I'd instructed. He came charging out of the woods & she didn't have her gun up. I told her she prank called him. She's still upset about that one(if brought up) & it was 4 years ago. Never seen him again.

Here is some photos of decent bucks, on my acreage, from the last couple of seasons. Taken through the kitchen window.

The buck, passed up the other day, showed up last evening out back. I recognized him by the light U-shaped design on the top of his head.
