Can't wait to try this out now. Between the longer heavier buffer & this new feed funnel alignment chute it might go better.

Definitely an improvement but, not fixed. Went from 70+% ftf down to 12%. The bolt hold open needs a bit more attention too. The mag catch is functioning as it should.

With the way the little bottom part of the bolt comes against the barrel extention it don't leave much room to make it work. I have another idea to try but, it may be a week or two before I'll have time to play with it more. Will probably make another feed chute & pull the barrel in anticipation of the throating reamer arriving.

I think it would have been easier to try and time the feed lips to present the round higher.
most successful feed designs aim the round high and the bullet rolls over [or bounces off the roof of the chamber] when chambering.

I'd have long ago lost patience with this whole project, and probably made some phone calls making suggestions to the suppliers of much of this stuff.
I was actually considering buying the rifle here complete just for the extra magazine capacity shooting.
but a one shooter just isn't all that interesting on the AR platform.

The reamer just showed up for this from Manson. That's the longest 4 week backorder I've experienced. I had forgotten about it.

I played with a few feed ramp ideas. One of which had a violent fight with the bolt.rps20161007_200255.jpg
This has been repaired. The lrbho is working about 90% & needs a bit more adjustment. I'll be taking the barrel off for reaming & feed funnel reshaping. More to come hopefully.

With the heavy buffer it really shoots nice & with a little luck we'll get it reliable eventually. Not giving up yet.

The punishment continues....

Quite a saga so far. The question is, are you having fun yet?

Fun yet....

No not really. It's still punishing me for being cheap but, I have a feeling the tables will be turning.

Have the barrel off now. I throated it just enough to provide a nice fit with my standard cast 9 loads. It took quite a bit to make them fit. It does chamber long loaded cast 356 bullets now.

I did a little work to the partial feed funnel on the barrel extention. I broke the bottom edges & made 2 very subtle side ramps in the extention. Kinda how an m4 has but much more subtle. Polished it up & will probably get it back on the receiver today.

Will be adjusting the lrbho while it's apart too.

With a little luck it will come around. One thing is for sure... if you buy a psa gun/parts don't expect them to work new or chamber cast at all. Be prepared for a journey of punishment. I'm to stubborn to quit and, so I continue.

If nothing else you now have a really good idea of what it takes to make them run.

Brad makes a great point. You'll know the system intimately by the time you get it running smoothly, and there's nothing wrong with knowing the "why" behind every angle and shape of every part in the system. I learned a heck of a lot about feeding and function from my adventures in pistol-caliber ARs.

Thank you for the encouragement guys! It helps with annoying projects, like this has been so far.

I got her(yep...this one's definitely a her) back together the other day. Today I made it to the range. I found over 30lbs of orphaned range Brass. Thank you leavers of the brass!

It worked out pretty well so far but, not done yet.

With the original wide hp plated loads it worked perfectly except that the last round would stop it. Seems like a single mag issue with one of the Korean 17rnd. Those are gone now & the throats been reamed. So now was the time for cast!....FINALLY

The lrbho does not work at all. Guess my last adjustment brought it back to square one, woo-hoo.

Now for the good news. It functioned with my Lee standard 9 load perfectly. I was able to get it on paper solid & move to the rifle range. After a bit of punishing this rifle in return we fired some groups. I was able to keep 10 shots in 3.5" & my guest bested me with a 10 round grouping just under 3" @ 50m.

The loads aren't made for the rifle. They were tumble lubed bullets loaded to fit 3 different 9mm handguns. So while not spectacular groups I felt good about them due to me not being great with open sights anymore, the loads being universal & for handguns, & it was a freaking beautiful day today.

Now that I can actually use cast bullets in the rifle, I'm excited to see what it can really do. I will be working up a few loads to try in this real soon.

I just checked the bore & found no leading.

On the to do list now- Adjust the lrbho for the 807th time, make test loads in the once fired brass I need to dig out, sharpen the front sight even more pointy & repaint it, & go shoot more!

Once it is all up and running I forsee you being behind in casting and loading 9mm. That thing is gonna have a voracious appetite.

I love a happy ending. Well, almost ending.

On the lrho, have you tweaked the bolt release lever spring? I found my AR-45 worked better with a lighter spring in there because it took some of the workload off of the magazine spring. Once filth gets in around the lever it takes more pressure to trip it.

I'm jealous of your groups. If I could get reliable 3" groups out of mine at 50 yards I'd be jumping up and down.

Nah..it doesn't have the proper angle to work well and it has its own little tiny baby spring for the lrbho lever. I'd like to source a better spring but, it's super tiny & would be a chore to find a better one. It wasn't a deal breaking feature for me anyway but, I'll keep messing with it until it works or I break it off in frustration.

If I can shrink the groups down to about an inch I'd start rounding up sale priced parts for an ar9 varmint rifle. Don't know if that's feasible. Not a lot of info out there on accurate ar9 cast shooters.

Already happening:(

33 rounds sounds like a lot but, after it loads the next round for you they disappear quick. I'll try the drum mag next time out when those work I'll really be in trouble.

Do have to admit that large cap autos and semi autos are fun to shoot. The bigger
the cal the more fun. Hard to beat a maduce, but expensive to feed.
