I'm thinking about 1200. I'm at work now but I will pull my 30-30 targets Somewhere I made a notation on a target ( A fellow ran my load on that Quick Loads program and I jotted it down somewhere) Not sure how savvy he was with using it. I heard it is quite complex

Well Guys... I may have thrown you astray I checked my old targets and with my Marlin 336 30-30 I was using this boolit in front of 3.1 grain Bullseye for 900 fps in a 20" barrel! That's why I heard the firing pin spring! Been awhile since I shot it & just couldn't remember. Sorry! Still was a nice lite accurate load at standard 22 LR velocity. Maybe I will try it again & up the charges!

Try some trail boss. My 32-20 with that powder excels with a 120 plain base at around 750 fps in a Marlin. I can hear the main spring, a pop, then a bit later a tink as the bullet hits a 100 yard steel plate. That never gets old.

Ben;
Just as an aside... I just lubed several hundred of those TODAY! However, they are for my .32 H&R Mags and .32 S&W Longs. Oh, and I was using Ben's LL.

Small world, indeed!

Was looking at my assemblage of Lee Molds, and found that I had that mold, and it obviously had been used. Can't find any data for it, but I probably loaded it for 30-30 and 308 plinking a long time back and forgot about it.
Guess I will run a batch the next time I have a casting session.

Interesting application for that bullet. Seems to work.

I have a friend with a front rest almost exactly like yours....... same bag, and IIRC,
also about the same shade of blue, but the base is bare wood.

Great minds running down the same gutters and all that.

Bill,

All that seems appropriate except the " great mind " for me.
I don't think so. Only in my dreams.

Just cast about 250 of the 93 grainers. With my melt, they come out at .316, Think I will lube about half of them as cast with 2 coats of BLL, and size the other half to .311 pr JW's recommendation w/2 coats of BLL.
Those at 316, I will try in my Lee 303, and Mosin Nagants.

Am sure they will shoot well Ben! That said, that sure is an ugly bullet loaded in just about any cartridge, but if the shoot well, looks don't count.

I have a 23 inch TC .30-30 bbl. I get very good results with the lee 170 grain bullet over 9 gr Unique. Around 3/4 to 1 1/2 at 100 yd.
I would love to hear some test results with this little plinker and . . .

Will they feed in the 336?

William,
I shoot these in my 336 Marlin (1970's era) if you crimp into the 2nd lube groove ( from the front) they will feed! Most times however if I'm shooting targets I don't crimp ( Single feed)
Load is 3.0 grains Bullseye..... Although probably not as accurate as your 170 grain

That is one ugly bullet loaded in a 30 cal case. That said, I played with it probably 10-12 years ago, and it shot very well in 30-30, 308, and 06, with moderate loads of unique. Don't recall what lube I was using, but am pretty sure I sized to .311. Back then saw little use for it, but guess now that Ben has created a few converts, will have to reassess my opinion.

Love that little SWC with 3.5 gn of TiteGroup in my 308. Every time I make some to test accuracy my grandson(20) shows up and shoots 'em all. Caught the wife calling him up and saying grandpa is making more, LOL.
