so waht ya doin today?

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Broke the skid steer, had a blow out on the bush hog, determined the line that broke under the crawler/loader/backhoe (which I should have been using instead of the skid steer to load ROCKS) will require me dropping about 450lbs of skid pan- again, and I got a little hay down but I busted the haybine too.

Been a swell day.

Finished yesterday's project by sweeping the lean-to roof of twigs, into the gutter and then putting the twigs into a couple of 5 gallon buckets and hauling it all away. Sue wanted a waffle cone with Cedar Crest ice cream for lunch and wanted to ride the Indian to go get it.

The farther we got from home the hotter it got, saw 88°. Split the cone with a cup of coffee for me and cappuccino for Sue and headed north toward a dark blue cloud with a squall line in it. Stop a couple miles out of town and donned rain gear. Made it less than 100 yards and rode into a down pour. Rode west north for 6 miles, west for 4 miles, crossed a tall arched metal grate bridge over the Mississippi and headed south. About 20 miles south of Lansing, IA we drove out the rain where the temperature had dropped to 66°. As we got to Prairie Du Chien to recross the Mississippi it was 90°. We gassed up and headed east the 41 miles to home. Halfway there we drove back into the same thunderstorm, once again we could see it up ahead and re-donned the rain gear. Visibility terrible, ponding on the highway. I joked to Sue that the DNR was going to charge us registration for a hydroplane. Made it home safe, sound, and a bit damp, maybe more than a bit. Boots soaked through, socks stained.

Nice rain when we got home that lasted a couple of hours just in time to water the 100 plus Blazing Star plants we recently put out. I'm guessing over a half inch.

He would drink beer only occasionally. I dont think he liked it but if hot he would. But he loved that pool!!
We have a Rott/Lab female mix now. This dog LOVES BEER!! She is a rescue and has a bad food issue. Possessiveness with her food, devouring bowl in seconds and jumping up on counters, jumping on person carrying food, stealing food from hands or low plates. Zero possessiveness now! I fed her from my hand one piece at a time for a week. Cured that. Making her wait till I said it was time to eat and stop. Jumping also cured. But if we dont watch she will steal food from cou ters. She is also very good at people food at her level. She will be right there but not take.
But beer and beer bottles are still a battle. She will have her tounge to the bottom in the blink of an eye!! Hahahaha

Well one side is sided.
There is 1 full gallon of paint on it. That siding, is cut so rough it just sucked it all up. Still has some spots showing thru. Done with brushing and rolling. Going to go to HF and buy a sprayer tomorrow.

My worldly experience and wisdom is not enough to keep my left thumb clear of closing doors. Wasn't too long ago the same thumb had an identical look to it, caused by it not being faster than a speeding Garand bolt.
Tylenol did work as advertized, now waiting to see if Advil will.

ow, the Garand thumb is one thing i managed to avoid.
i'd heard about it but had no idea how to avoid it, i just knew i didn't want one and somehow managed to right hand-left hand my way out of ever getting one.

today was foam spray day at the park, they also hand out free watermelon.
i participated in neither, but did get myself a big o'l tigers blood snow cone in a cup and nursed it for the entire hour and a half i stood under the umbrella watching the festivities.
yeah i said umbrella.
i wasn't always standing under it, sometimes it was between me and the fire nozzle, i was at my usual spot by the stairs that come down to the park from the county building, not my first time there... LOL.

working on a little experiment with some garden stuff today.
i took three cabbages, a dozen onions and garlic bulbs and about 5lbs. of beets over to littlegirl's place.
we are doing a little experiment making some sauerkraut with the big kitchenaid food processor and nothing but salt and the water we beat out of the cabbage heads with it.
we are running the onions and garlic bulbs through the dehydrator and then the grinder to make a powder that can be stored.
if it works like i think it will the tomatoes will go through the same process to make a tomato powder that can be stored for like infinity.
the beets went through a pickling process to try and determine the cooking and pressure canning time.
we overshot the cook time a little, but we now have a recipe for the pickling.
i also have a time of year/ground temp zeroed in for planting the seeds i harvest from the same plants, they seem to adapt themselves to our climate here over better and better as i go through each generation.

Got a few little jobs done yesterday. The pool pump is installed and ready to get in operation as soon as the water hits the inlet. Managed to navigate the SSA site to obtain some needed documents. Made some calls and emails to my state gov't officials as they try to circumvent recent SCOTUS rulings that enable law abiding citizens to exercise their rights. Did more work on this house my daughter/wife are trying to get- the things we do for grandkinds! Have the GMC2500 semi lined up for more work at Ol' Wayner's garage after the holiday. Have a list of parts to order for vehicles/equipment as soon as I feel up to letting more scheckles out of my hoard. Finally convinced my oldest daughter that just because certain things she considers "normal" are disgusting displays of perversion to me doesn't mean I "hate" anyone, since she feels the same way about things I find perfectly acceptable. I may finally be getting the idea of crazy concepts like "freedom", "excessive taxation" and "minding your own business" through to her. Plus, I started explaining basic economics, taxation, cause and effect and a whole lot of history she'd misinterpreted to her. Funny how Dad isn't such an idiot when he backs up his crazy ideas with facts you can easily find on the oh so perfect internet!

I'll probably be tearing into some piece of machinery today.
Can I like that more than once?

I have been growing garlic for a number of years now.
Elephant "I know it`s not true garlic" and some kind of Italian red.
After spending $40+ for a pound of Music garlic to plant, I pulled one bulb a little early to see how it was doing.
The tops are big and the bulbs are truly impressive, being nearly as large as the elephant but with the true strong garlicy taste.
Gotta go trim up the brisket and get it on to smoke.

You will find it takes 5x a long to spray it, they aren't like a Binks or DeVibliss on metal, and the color will be weak. Stick with the roller. There are wood preps that will lessen the "suck up" on raw wood.

Yep, a good primer will go a long way to easing the amount of paint sucked into the wood.

Our dehydrator turned all our onions brown and my wife said they tasted burnt. One of those things you have to watch I guess.

It's survival, if I don't do it, it ain't gonna get done. Nothing "over" about it. To each their own. Ian understands, same thing. It's my choice, my lifestyle. I just vent a little here and sort of keep a diary I suppose. If it bothers people let me know, I can stop.

Wouldn’t think anyone is bothered by a rant or a little venting.

But, yes winter is coming Jon Snow. When freeze up happens your pretty much done, wood has to have time to dry or it burns poorly and creosotes the stack. About sometime in the last half of September ground around here starts get solidly frozen, so any dirt work has to be done. Spend all summer preparing for winter. I still haven’t done any shooting since May. After this summer the project list will consist of working on the house and shop, and I will have some leisure time for shooting, about time, I’ll be 70.
Just cut my project list back big time by selling the skid steer and the Case 580 backhoe. Guy wanted them badly and maid me an offer that makes me happy “as is where is”.
I’ve cut back on the long list of projects seasonal and otherwise, but with heating fuel at $4.99 a gallon, when a bit less then 2 years ago it was $1.59, and should be again. Yeah firewood is a must.

Are you still planning on taking some time off in September? Seems I heard that someplace. :D
