Did some shooting today. Glad to see Dawn getting better and better with her 686.
Sized some Accurate 155K so I can load for 38 special.
Getting to the range realizing that other than the 3 loaded mags for the G17 all your 9mm was still at home sucks.
That is one of the best things about a home shooting range. Over the years I can't even recall all the times I'd driven to the range only to realize I'd forgotten something at home.

Of course being a flawed human, I still mumble and grumble as I walk the 50 yards back up the hill to the house.:)

July 3rd marina fire..jpg

Photo from Norfork Lake Lover's FB page. This picture was most likely taken by someone returning to the marina from the fireworks display. The structure in the middle is the fish cleaning station at the front of Dock 3. The marina office and gas pumps is the lighted building on the extreme right. Dock 4 is the extreme left. The smaller blaze could either be a boat or the walkway connecting Dock 3 to Dock 4...................hard to tell from a night photo.

So this is a disastrous fire caused by a fireworks mishap?

Don't know that. All that has been in the local news so far is that a boat caught fire and then the dock it was tied to. What caused the boat to burn?

See, never cast bullets on a boat.

Town cleaned out the stalls at the rodeo grounds, free aged manure, they even loaded it. My morning will be spent hauling it from the truck to the to garden.

The wood on that dock is all pressure treated lumber. Have ya ever smelled pressure treated burning? Damn that had to stink. Not all bad though, several years ago I found a 2x6 pressure treated buried in the back yard all rotting away, tossed it in the burn pile. That would have been a huge mistake except there wasn't a skeeter in the neighborhood for a week. :D

This happens to be the very marina where we keep our pontoon. There are 6 boat docks, all connected. Dock 3 is a total loss, so rumor has it. We're on Dock 4, directly across, maybe 30 yards of open water. Cindy was at a friend house, on the lake watching the fireworks. Peoples cell phones were going off around the time the fireworks just started. Someone sent this very picture of the blaze. One of the couples at the get together, owns one of the several houseboats on the end our dock.....................they called Wayne & Sue (previous owners)...............who live not far from the marina. They were unable to get down there because of all the emergency vehicles blocking everything. Plus, all the cars down there from people taking their boats to see the fireworks, last night.

Going to be a mess down there this week. I'll have to go down and inspect the barge to see if it survived, sometime this week. In the meantime, I'll wait and see if I get a call from the owners of the marina. Obviously, I didn't get much sleep last night.
Well that certainly sucks. Had a similar fire at Snug Harbor Marina a couple years ago. Some very big boats burned up in that one. Boat fires are always scary because every one will have a fuel tank and if partially full, more like a bomb than anything else.

About 5 or so years ago, we had a big motor yacht of the vintage where the hull was fiberglass, but the superstructure was wood, with lots of mahogany. The guys that owned it had been restoring it for years and this was the maiden voyage. I remember the article saying that there was some issue with the engines while still at the dock. But they took it out anyway. It did not get very far into the lake when it burst into flames. It burned to just above the waterline. They had to jump overboard because the flames spread so fast.

Hope your boat is okay. 30 yards is a decent distance. If you still cannot get in there, do you know anyone with a drone?

UPDATE: Oops, did not see your follow-up before I posted. Looks like you dodged a bullet. That's quite a mess. Surprised it did not take out the entire length of dock. Boats are like cars in that there there is a vast majority of owners that only know how to make them go. They have zero understanding of much beyond that. Then add in those who "think" they know what they are doing and make dangerous electrical connections and such and the risks just keep adding up.

My cousin bought a big CrownLine that had 3 batteries. He would go to start the boat and it would not start. He asked me to take a look. When I raised the engine compartment hatch and saw the absolute mess of wire that was connected to the batteries (I'm talking 3rd world telephone pole mess) I disconnected everything and just reconnected what was needed to run the engine. Told him he had work to do. This boat had AC, pumps for a shower and sinks, and every other boat farkle you could imagine. 90% of it did not work. He never did rewire it. He sold it and passed the headaches along to the next guy, who did a complete inspection of the boat and seemed quite happy with it.

All kinds of things can happen. A fuel leak on a hot engine can ignite under the right conditions. A bilge pump could seize and overheat starting an electrical fire. People add things to their boats and never fuse the circuit. They wire directly to the battery and that is a recipe for disaster.

Damn John. At least the boat is safe but this is gonna put a crimp in your fishing for a bit.

Had plans on going out early tomorrow morning, after the weekend warriors depart. The fire nixed that. I have to go into town, tomorrow so I'll probably stop at the marina and check out the pontoon. Cindy got some info that other docks had soot/ash accumulations.

Sorry to hear about the fire. Hope none of you all lost anything important, that cannot be replaced .

Any how, worked on the Shed this morning till I lost shade. Got another side up and painted. Then the sun came out and I had to stop for now.

Then me and the boy went to look at an 1987 Bronco 2 4x4. That was burning oil when it was parked and does not run now. 20 years later. Well, we passed for now. as it stands.
Currently cooking burgers on the grill.

Since it was Independence Day...Decided to cast bullets to insure my stock!
Cast up a bunch of those Lee 309-113 but since I have a mould with plain base and gas checked I just ran the two cavities for and hour!
