Finally checking back in... and... shocked my last what's up was 22 June moving the shop presses... that week was hell. and just when thought I had caught a break... turned to pure chit

Grandson (Short Bowl Syndrome/17 mo old/PIC line in his heart for TPN) got an infection. SEVERE! Went to ER on Friday (6/24) with 103 temp. This is a HUGE indication of a line infection, but... nothing seemed out of place. White count normal. Sent home/told come back Sat to ER and we will look at line/possible infection.

Goes into ER Sat noon. Crashes in the ER with 103.9 temp and goes instantly Septic! Had he not been in the ER - we would have lost him!

Fast fwd to today. He came home last Friday (7/1). As of today - Weebly wobbly working off meds on 14 days heavy antibiotics we are all trying to get over the mental stress. He is a damned Trooper! He is basically back to normal and not seeing any long term issues from the infection/Sepsus. We dodged a MAJOR bullet. Counting our blessings (5 boys, and always said we dodged all the major bullets - paying for it now...)!

PSA: regardless of your very young children/grandchildren status - Google "warm sepsus!" It can happen in literally MINUTES! The ER Doc toally missed it.

That would be the Harley fuel cell elec. bike. In school the engg day festival, we had slot cars, kid players vs Athena computer. Much fun running cars to 'record' the best 'pedal' control. Also had a 'talking' (via mic) robot with head/arms that got moved by an auto power seat control. Motor/solenoid/speedo cables & gears.
Yea, got a GK that is in the HS robotics program. I keep sending him stuff so he will realize what real robotics is. Yea, I know, dangling particle. English/lit was not my major.
I've heard that term for decades and you made me finally look up what it means. I did, I read 3 different explanations and I still only partly get the idea. Well, we can cross that off the bucket list...

Oscar, kind thoughts and prayers to your GS and family. That sounds incredibly terrifying, and makes me again question the entire medical industry. Go to the ER in that condition with that background and they send him home? $$$$$$$$$$$$ That's all that matters. Shameful! I pray he recovers fully.

When things get back on a more even keel, I'd love to see some pics of the new shop! Next best thing to gun porn is shop porn!!!

ER in Florida didn't do my son any favors. He went to the ER in the afternoon complaining of chest pains. They said indigestion go home. Went back to the ER that same night, they said indigestion go home. He died of heart failure on his way back to the ER the following morning.

Soaking wet here this AM. Still woosy, working working through whatever invaded the ol'bod. I need to order parts today that I forget about yesterday and I need to get going on that backhoe. Also have a set of foam filled skid steer tires I found for cheap half a state away and I need to go look at a set of trusses for a 24x28 building that's available locally. I'd planned a 12x24 woodshed with overhangs on both sides for equipment storage. This is twice the size, but the trusses make the labor way less than half. If I included the overhangs of, say, 10 feet, I would be able to have my 12x24+ of woodshed and space to store a great deal of my equipment under cover. I might even be able to get some stone for the floor and do some repairs there since I'm doing pretty good in the generator area. Downside is the only area near the house that's suitable is across the road and down the hill. Not exactly nearby, maybe 100 yards give or take. If I can swing it, and IF the trusses are in good shape, I can't pass the opportunity for a larger building up. Fortunately it's Ag related so no building permits/engineers needed.

Was watching a documentary on steam engines last night. Considering the cost of fuels it got me considering alternatives. Steam is great, don't get me wrong, but it's also a freakin' bomb made of scalding heat/moisture! Got me dwelling again on woodgas generators and wondering if a compression ignition engine would run on WG. I'm thinking Lister type diesel. I dunno, have to research it. I could always snatch up an old gasoline power unit, there's generally several around most of the time. Be interesting at the least.

Terrible. My FIL went to Dr/hosp with what was obviously an infection multiple times. They did nothing. Sent him home. Infection, in his mouth/teeth, spread to blood and his heart. Strokes followed. I'm not much on lawyers and lawsuits, but that one should have gone to court. Local girl whose mother had a history of severe issues during pregnancy went into labor and her doc, who knew the history ignored all the warning signs, she died. I don't know of another profession that gets away with what the medical industry does.

Every time I meet another doctor I wonder if he cheated on any of his exams. There is no doubt that doctors can work miracles and I know one that saved a neighbor who should have died 10 years ago and she's still going strong. I'm not sure all are committed to the profession as much as they are committed to the image and the income. Another influence that can ruin medical care are the corporations running the hospitals and medical practices these days.

Think about auto mechanics and the varied attitudes you can find in private and dealer shops. Dentists are another area where quality is all over the place. My wife was a dental assistance and worked for a dentist that let her go because her standards were too high. The guy was all about making money first and dentistry second.

Hope your GS makes a full recovery.

IIRC that experiment was back in the 70 or 80s. Chrysler was selling LPG and hydrogen powered stuff then too but used standard engine. Problem with hydrogen was storage, cell needed a membrane with high holding capacity for room temp hydrogen. Not like LPG. Harley used hydrogen to directly gen. electricity for the motor. Byproduct was H2O.
Yup, her BIL is in a rehab in Fl (after a bunch of failures), has to get the jab before he can leave his room. Wife says he never has clothes on when she visits - has to go around looking for stuff for him to war. Not uncommon in those facilities.

Got to make a town run for the last few electrical parts to finish the cabin wiring. Should be done Thursday or Friday at let latest. Then doing some Sheetrock in the bathroom, kitchen ceiling and ceiling in the main room between the ridge pole, purlins and walls. Nephew is oiling the log walls which is coming out nicely.

Not easy to find a really good doctor. In my lifetime I've had 8 to 10 family practice type doctors. Three I had confidence in, one was truly a great doctor (old fashioned horse & buggy doc) and one was a once-in-a-lifetime doctor and a truly gifted diagnostician; nothing got by him.

Doctors. My area does not have enough. Why? Because of the high cost of living. This according to the best family doc we ever had, and the area's monopolistic hospital/urgent care/specialists/labs/imaging non-profit (yeah, right) conglomerate. The reality is, doctors don't want it known that they live in other than the area's very, very high rent zip codes. The old, established docs are retiring and their young replacements can't afford the $5000
per-month rent, nor the six to seven-figure purchase price of a home, in their favored zip codes. Far be it for a doc to set his ego aside and live among the commoners.

Rick.... So sorry to hear this ...that is terrible! How old was he? I would investigate and do a lawsuit!
That is not right....we go to Emergency rooms to help us! This is very troubling to me!
I am so sorry!

Back to reality after our short distance escape. My wife, Miss Sarah (the local granddaughter who joined us for a
24-hour stint), Duke, and myself had an enjoyable and relaxing time.

Now to get caught up on laundry, the yards, Art & Science . . .

I consider myself blessed with the local hospital and staff, especially for this small town (pop. 5K).
in my 30 years in this town, I've really only had one Dr (one appointment) where I was disappointed in his reasoning/logic, and just never seen him again.
