Nice score, Jon, youll have the warm fuzzies over that for a long time.

It finally cooled off enough for me to go back out for a photo. I wasnt taking my phone out there when it was 108 in the shade.

need to get you a battery box and a couple of bare wires for both sides of the gate now.

made a trip down to pokey this mid morning.
it was 97 or 98 down there and I could tell as soon as I got out of the truck.
Lowes got another check from me today, they will probably get another one tomorrow, and another one later this week.
I got everything to frame in the roof for the front porch and all the support posts for the porch that's gonna tie into it and go all the way across the front of the house.

I'm gonna do the roof and cement first in case it snows early this year, I can work on the lower part in the winter if I have to.

I'm gonna try a couple of wireless keypads for now, for those who won't be given fob transmitters, and as backup. My concern is AA batteries cooking to death in them. Since it will take carbide-tipped rotary equipment to ditch across the road there, hard-wiring will have to wait. I need something a little bigger than normal battery boxes to house the charger and an RV box with welding plug and 110V power outlet. A bigger problem is making a box for packages to be left in.

I thought you was gonna fish and shoot ground hogs all summer? Something about people here on the board, the projects never end....fortunately.

I was wondering why you was stick welding. I was helping another guy get started a few years back with a stick machine he picked. It's funny how awkward that feels after having only mig for years.
When I(at 8 years old) learned from dads friend(a welding instructor) he wouldn't let me join 2 pieces till I could write my initials with the stick.

Recently, picked up a pound of Power Pistol to try in 9 mm loads. This was based on the most accurate loads in the most recent Lyman's Cast Bullet Manual. Tried ladder loads in my CZ Scorpion carbine, with 120 and 150 grain cast. Nothing out standing, group wise. AA#7 preformed much better.

Melting down a few buckets of range scrap. Should get another 250-300 pounds of useable alloy. Maybe more if i hold up in the heat.

I been trying to fish, but there ain't much sense in catching any more when I have a big bag full of smoked fillets sitting in the fridge now.
the rock chucks actually hibernate [hiternate?] in the heat, anything over about 80 puts them back underground.
the little ground squirrels will only be out for around 3 hours every afternoon, and they are only about 7-8 miles out, so I just drop what I'm doing for a bit and go pick off a dozen or so every couple of days.

the battery box is for the drive by lookie-lous, most everyone that sees a battery box and a wood post with some bare wires running up to the fence automatically assumes the fence is energized.

we have been wanting to get a porch done since I bought the place.
I got the money in hand right now [and i ain't getting any younger] so I figure I better get it done or forget about it.

anyway.
so I get up early to watch the Formula 1 race this morning, only to be disappointed once again watching the Ferarri driver with a 7 second lead drive straight off the track.
this is after they told his team mate [the guy I like] to let him past and then come into the pits a lap too late so Mercedes can go ahead and take a 1-2 finish [my not so happy opinion about their dumbass move]
it wouldn't be so bad but I really can't stand the guy that won, and they handed him back the drivers and constructors points lead.

No choice. Burning together heavily-corroded, 3/8" thick oil field pipe doesn't work with the wire-feed because theres just not enough heat to penetrate the steel and the corrosion would just make a crusty, hot mess. The clean, new metal for the gate made MiG the obvious choice for that.

Watched it rain whilst casting some 135 Lee 7-08's.Using rotometal, dang near linotype.I could tell by the sound of them clinking together afterwards, gathering them up from water pan....... uhhh, these are right much harder than the range scrap/ww mix I was using.

So,now have to find a hotter load. Was loading <2000.Gonna bump that up to 22-2400.

Form 2 buckets melted down, roughly 375 pounds. Should have a yield of 250 pounds. Letting it all cool now. Dirt goes in trash, jackets to scrapper, and lead into my bin under the casting bench.
Now to find time to do the other 4 buckets I have kicking around.

Gee whiz, Ian, that is one fine looking gate and the side posts are awfully nice, too.
That is a whole lot of "free" lead, Brad.

I'm working on a trailer frame stress analysis model for a customer. Needs a custom design to carry a Smart Car in the back,
so needs me to redesign the whole thing. This is high end semi-trailer, home type. The only customer that
I still work for, just because it is about one every year or two and I like the guy.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I guess that's what I get for telling Ian fence building wasn't my idea of a July sport. I was pulling my hay rake through the gate a couple of weeks ago, hooked a rotten gate post and knocked it down.IMG_20180722_151213417-2624x1476.jpg
Probably 8 hours over 3 days between the wife and I we have a new gate opening. Those were some mean postholes.

Did a 1000 yard (996) shoot with some buddies from work today. Almost lost my drone!:embarrassed:
Got some good video. My brother hit a beer can, twice, with two different rifles. 6.5cm and the .338lm

I never should have taut him to shoot or reload...…...

I'll post the vid once it's ready.
