all I got on the all copper stuff is it can be pretty picky about jump to the lands.

I think she has pretty much just taken over the tang safety Ruger in 7x57 at this point.
the only time I ever shot it, besides the initial sight in, was at one deer we seen while hanging out at the truck eating lunch one afternoon.
he come zipping past us and it was the closest rifle to me, that was a one shot affair too.

Got Mom's new plates on her truck. Went through a few boxes in the future reloading area of the basement. Found 45 ACP and 38 SPL cartridges. Been keeping just two handguns loaded around the place; now we have 3 more.

Need to purchase archery target materials so the younger man of the house can practice. Lord knows we have room for that now.
I know we have a number of accomplished archers here. Have any recommendations for economical or DIY archery targets?

EDIT: Sorry, wrong thread. Meant to post in "what ya doin today".
I've never tried it, but I've been told used shrink wrap (available from finer dumpsters at grocery store warehouses everywhere) stops arrows very well.

I made chicken tenders and a chocolate pie, homemade crust yesterday afternoon. A cpl Gbabies were being dropped off so parents could attend some fancy awards thing. I ate all the tenders and half the pie before they arrived. Those dang chicken thingys are "untouchable"..... oh let me just test one to make sure its seasoned OK,turns into, can't stop till they're gone.

Made some more when wifeypoo got a little bent..... warned the adults not to test them. They didn't listen either. Think the kids got a cpl. Dbl dipped egg/milk wash and thrown in fancied up bread crumbs,"fried" in olive oil in a big ole, slick as glass cast iron skillet.

My sand berm does double duty. Stops and recovers bullets, as well as arrows.

For targets, I use the discarded spools from masking or duct tape. Three inch diameter, IIRC, is a good group for archery tackle. Stand them directly on the sand.

Some guys use rubber mulch for stopping bullets............. I imagine it would work for arrows too. Just have to be creative on how to contain it.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I have shot many an arrow using a round bale for a backstop, needs to be a tight one. Shoot into the side, not the end.

Got the 218 bee brass from Powder Valley yesterday and RacinYakima was kind enough to let me barrow his Sinclair neck sizing die, so I am going out to the reloading room today and try making 25-20 wcf brass. Will post result later today.

My wife couldn't make pancakes if her life depended on it. Heck, she'd mess them up if I set all the controls, mixed the batter, scooped it out......

She had a hard time with pop tarts when the kids were little.

Trying to avoid watching football with her. Ok, so dove attack mojos? 3rd time I've seen them flare just before hitting them. Edge of 12 acre sunflower patch, come screaming in from behind. Got 2 but spent 30 min trying to find one. They were fast and mostly out of range. Not a lot of birds but decent for late. Buddy almost got a hawk, came in fast from behind, coasting. Lucky him.

Smokey, you tube is full of DIY archery targets. From cheapo to as much as you want to spend.

But,had to be one.....

Guys shooting tiny diameter carbons at today's compound speeds have vastly different requirements than trad folk. For the latter,my suggestion is judo tips and go stump shooting. The former? $$$ stackable ethafoam. The "stacking" part means you can loosen the frame clamp system/bolts,rearrange the foam...... clamp it all back down.

I would,if possible from an overview standpoint; have one "formal" target backstop,to include a nice roof over to protect it. Take some paver bricks(no holes) and dig them in flush with the ground so mower sails over them. Paint yardage on them. I go every 5 yards from 20 to 50.

Then, take some feed sacks and stuff full with plastic grocery store style bags. A cpl 3/4 × 1 1/2 wide,by the length of the bag top,pcs of wood. These are what you close the bag top with....using drywall screws. These are "informal" and can be made cheap enough to have 1/2dz.... scattered down through the woods. The problem with bag targets is your arrow droops making it too easily broken with subsequent shots. That's the fundamental difference in a formal vs informal.

Stump shooting with judos is as easy as getting the tips,be they screw on or glue on(woody arrows). Then go wander around with your buds shooting at anything you deem suitable. Not really useful for compounds though. A soccer ball and a cpl recurves with blunts or judos is so much fun. The ball is quickly deflated by the first hit but just keep shooting it. And this is while it's in the air. Great father N son addiction. This is also "informal" because,we ain't comin back he-ah. Kick ball,shoot....walk to get arrows and ball, then we go from there. Keep the ball less than 10 or so feet high.... line drives, going away.

They use weathered fiberboard, cut in strips, & stacked in 4x4 frames at our nearest archery range. It is a heavily used range & the targets work splendid. Look up the Glenn Cunningham archery range, maybe see a photo. Have enjoyed many hours there.

GRRR,
sat through a sleet/snow/wind storm.
I had my duck hunting gear on but about froze my fingers off.
then right before dark I watched 2 does a fawn and a 2 point Buck walk across a private field right towards me.
butt holes just milled around, eating some here and some there [the fawn was running around annoying it's mom] right at the fence line until I had to pull out at dark.
I seen them cross over after I got about 75yds. up the trail and was almost back to the trail down to the truck.
I had to sit there for 15-20 minutes with about 200 perfect 40-50yd broad side shots and couldn't do nuthin about it.
pretty aggravating.

Thanx guys for the archery target ideas. Going to try and come up with something cheap and quick for my teen son. As we're still swamped with emptying boxes, organizing, I have to build benches, an archery target will have to be quick and dirty.
He’s been very helpful during this move. He's been promised a new gun for all his very hard work. Also, as he has a natural ability with archery, he'll be provided with a bit of an archery range.

Cpl feed sacks,at opposing ends.... shoot a cpl arrows, retrieve with bow in hand, shoot back at other bag. The wood strips used to close bags are what you hang them with as well.

Not directed at Smokey;

I think about gun ranges a lot when driving, looking at the $$ businesses use on their "landscaping". The idea is that their property looks appealing yet, dosen't require much maintenance. Just sayin,if you have resources, like a backhoe or track loader working at your home anyway. My current range is just OK. Had much better back a few decades. Have designed and built a few for guys when building on their houses.

Grassy knolls ain't just for conspiracy theories. If I was starting from scratch today,Martha would be in a heep of trouble cause I'd be planting boxwoods and ivy with Jeffersonian inspired structure covering benches. Make it stupid easy on maintenance. Have my "formal" archery target as part of this.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Fixed stuff around the house yesterday. Slept decent for the first time in 2 weeks last night. Gonna try to get more little jobs done today.

oh oh.
it's like moose/deer/goose season up there though.

they must super glue the leaves on the trees around here, the wind was over 35 mph for most of the afternoon yesterday and the sleet was pretty much sideways.
didn't even phase the orange/brown leaves one bit.

Woke up to snow in the yard this morning. It has snowed down to the water mark a couple of times in the last few weeks, but this is the first snow in the yards. It will be melted out by the days end.
