At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Veterinaries- We've spent (she spent actually!) tens of thousands of dollars with one place up here over the past 25 years. Last time I had an issue the person on the phone gave me the 20 questions and "just why should we even let you in the door?" business when I was trying to make an appt. I managed to convince the person I was a long time customer and not an MS13 drug dealer wanting his Pit Bulls teeth sharpened or whatever it is they fear. When I got to the office I did my "Crazy, irate, possibly mental customer" act and had the CFO (the vets wife) out of her office in nothing flat. After outlining my dissatisfaction with the treatment I got I was assured a note would be made in our file and I would never, ever have to endure that type of crap again. It also earned me a break in that visits bill. Sometimes you have to let them know they work for YOU and you aren't there to provide them with the means to get that new boat or the bigger McMansion.

Cold and wet here. Still have roofing to finish but it's the wrong weather for that. Pretty yucky out there. I might crawl under the Burb and see what I'm going to have to buy to quiet the old girl down. Also have to get under the crawler and get a hose off. Both options involve mud!

SWMBO has voiced her desires for shake type siding. Spent an hour on line yesterday looking at my options. Actual cedar is out due to cost and the wind here. I detest common vinyl strip siding, but I have seen some stuff that looks decent on a properly prepped surface. I also see a cement-fiber option. I grew up in a house with cement-fiber siding and like the stuff. Maybe there's other options I haven't seen yet. Researching this stuff is not really my favorite thing to do. But before that I have foundation work to get done. She wants me to hire it out. "To whom dear?" The one outfit (Amish) I had lined up last year never showed because it wasn't a high paying job. I hate dealing with this stuff.

They will price match any veterinary medications. Just print out the online prices.
Don't have the patience to do extra work, spend extra time to get a fair price on vet meds and don't want to listen to their spiel on all the other tests, treatments, supplements etc. that we should be buying.

I've had two veterinarians in the past that put your pet ahead of their profits. I'm loyal as hell to someone like that.

Just can't abide by a vet who may have the knowledge of a physician, but has the morals of a politician and talks like a used car salesman.

you'd love it here then.
the one vet has her secretary trained up to do all the politician and salesman stuff, and she sticks to the these are the facts type stuff.
they don't push all the extra's up on the shelves though.

Got a groomer that has lupus but gets along with my dog fine. Old vet (probably dead by now) was great, volunteer vet for city shelter - 1/2 his business and I'm sure I was footing part of his income. This vet is great, prescriptions for on-line/Sam's meds. Does what needs to be done only.

I'll gladly do a few minutes of work, to save over $100..............

One more thing about All Creatures, they have at least 1/2 dozen different vets. Don't recall having the same one twice. Never met the owner, Dr. Conner. Rick had him, the very first time. Conner's All Creatures is full service. All pets, farm, as well as wild animals. When Fish and Game has injured animals or birds of prey..........that is where they take them. It's been in the local newspaper, more than once.

All the vets, we have had there, didn't push anything. Majority were women. When we took Bella in February, I inquired about the relatively new to the market, three in one oral preventive. For Heartworm prevention as well as flea and tick. Been seeing a commercial on TV for it. The vet didn't know anything about it, or it's effectiveness. I did my own online research and discovered there was any significant savings to go that route. Actually, more expensive.

Boxers are prone to tumors. Bella has had several removed, upon our request. They didn't push for the surgery, told us to keep an eye on them, incase they get significantly larger. Biopsy's are optional, after removal of tumor.

Vet bills here are running about half of what I paid for 10 years ago, in Detroit.

If your not happy with the veterinary service providers.......................you aren't going to be happy with most MD's around here. That's if you can even get in to see them. The best, aren't taking new patients.

Not trying to be argumentative. Only telling you the way it is, around here, in my experience.

Don't think much of a vet that has intentions of screwing me out of an extra $100.

Vet we saw at All Creatures was a thirty-ish, somewhat heavy set female with dark hair I think. Maybe we should try a different vet there.

Fairly happy so far with our GP and Mrs. smokeywolf's cardiologist. Did not like the female dermatologist I saw at King.

I know I'm very picky about doctors. Have only had 3 GPs in my lifetime that I really hit it off with; two were truly gifted physicians. Now that I think of it, I also saw a nurse practitioner at Motion Picture who really knew her stuff. Rick may have also seen her at some time or another.
Have had 2 veterinarians that I trusted and also happened to like.

Michael, I've got a extractor housing (aluminum) if you still need one.
I found it while deer hunting a good 40 years back. The rod was in it, but the spring was no where to be found.

It was in the second box I looked in. It has some scratches. Shown in pic. The rest is good.

Thanks, Mark, but I already ordered the Ruger steel version.

That confirms my thinking that aluminum is not up to the job.

My .357 was made in '80 and other than one test of a maximum load I've used only high mid-range loads.

Sounds good. I just picked up one of the same two weeks ago. Circa 77.
Shot some 357 mag. In it. The ruger emblem on the grip just about took the skin off my thumb.
I guess it needs to make a callus.

Gosh you guys are having such fun. All I'm doing is fishing, fishing, fishing. 5 trips in the past 8 days,, 58 walleyes boated, not many kept. Water temperature dropped 9 degrees since Friday. Should help drag out the bite. Windy, raw, and 46 for a high today, but the bite was good. We landed 4 in the first 25 minutes on the river.

Got the end of deck/gate pavers down. Man, that concrete blade sure made short work of the 20 needed cuts. Super fine dust everywhere, though, and even after another shower and brushing my teeth I still feel dirty and the teeth still feel gritty.

My wife asked, "What's your next after-fence project?"

I thought I was the only one that happened to.

backyard efforts again yesterday, then I ended up cooking some pork ribs, and using them to make a light chili.

I have the nephew up here for the whole week hanging out for the first time since he moved out after H/S.
I was gonna take him for a ride looking for rock chucks, but the winter weather advisory for early this morning and tomorrow say's we ain't going anywhere past maybe Grace [smaller town pop900 where we used to live] tomorrow, looking for a new heating element for Littlegirls oven.
somehow I got roped into tearing her oven apart and then cooking dinner again, I think it surprised her that I ended up half BBQ'ing and half frying a bunch of chicken legs on her BBQ.
I wouldn't tell her how I done it, but they come out real good.

Oh, yeah. Today was replace a busted flexplate and transmission adapter on a 3500 diesel 4x4 and pull the transmission/ transfer case out of a Jeep Wrangler to do a rear main seal and clutch. When it rains heavy, nasty, overhead work, it pours.

We do our price checks before going to the vet. His prices aren't out of line with most places selling pet meds............ie Pet Smart, Pet Meds, Chewy, Amazon. Just need to be a savvy shopper...............Best Vet Care, out of GB, beat them all.

Description of the female vet, sounds a lot like the one we saw in February.

Unbelievably I got everything on my list done yesterday! Turns out the hydraulic hose hidden away under the crawler wasn't all that bad to get out. I even managed to get the ends sealed up so I wouldn't be contaminating them with dirt! The guy making the hose up last time seems to have interpreted my instruction to "Make it a couple inches longer than the steel tube." as meaning he should add 5 inches to it! No wonder it didn't fit right! And shame on me for not realizing it at the time since I do know how to use a tape measure. Also found some siding prospects that look promising.

Got to town and ordered the exhaust pipes for the Burb. Should be quieter by late this afternoon. I also managed to get that roof shingled all by my lonesome. I'd picked up a Bostich battery powered roofing nailer a couple years back at an auction real cheap. Took me a while to figure it out, but in the end it was a time saver- and no smashed fingers! Only screwed up on my flashing purchase a little and need about a foot more. Easy fix. SWMBO is pleased. I did find the shingles irritated the heck out of my hands. Felt like I'd been messing with poison ivy or something. Weird. Had a Town Board meeting last night too. I'm getting so I call them "Hell Nights". There's just no end to desires of some people to spend tens of thousands of dollars on pet projects no one else gives a crap about!
