The movie was Hollywood's version of the Hollister invasion/riot.

Hollister is a 45 minute drive from my house.

There is a story I may tell sometime involving my wife and I, and the president of the local Hells Angles chapter.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Just my opinion, but a good actor doesn't look like he's acting. Brando, and a whole lotta others!, always plainly appeared to be acting. Just not convincing I guess. It's the roles they play I suppose, but that's what made some actors better, choosing/getting the right role. Thats about as much as I know about the whole acting biz, except that it's incredibly over valued and over paid.

I was reading a review of "Man in a Net", an old Alan Ladd movie that really wasn't very good at all. It was in his later years when the booze really had a hold on him. The guy referred to Ladds acting style as "The Cigar Store Wooden Indian style of acting"! It was hilarious, and right on target. He was just trying to make some $$$, he had zero interest in the movie, you could tell.

Richard Burton was another I just didn't get the big deal about. He and William Shatner seem about on the same level in my mind, and I know that's blasphemy! Being "intense" is fine, but come on!

I'll give you a couple people that really can act. Geoffrey Rush, the bad ghost pirate captain in "Pirates of the Carribean", but also the protagonist in "The Kings Speech". I couldn't beleive it was the same guy! Edward G Robinson, watch him in "Key Largo" or something and the in "Our Vines have Tender Leaves". It's like it's not even the same guy. Paul Muni is another that was like that. None of them were naturals at the roles like Barry Fitzgerald in "The Quiet Man" or "The Naked City", but they weren't playing anything like similar characters. I dunno, those guys impressed me I guess.

Unfortunately many actors get stuck in a type cast .

Allen Tudyk has managed to avoid it .
Ewen Bremer has too .

Key Largo is, in my opinion, hands down the best Bogart movie ever, but it was as much or more due to Robinson's part than Bogart (gotta admit to having a crush on young Laren Bacall too).

The King's Speech was a surprisingly good movie, my wife couldn't understand what I saw in it, she thought it was slow and dull. The old' Guy flicks are always about conflict, chick flicks are always about relationships" thing didn't seem to work in that case.
