Really a cup point [my term] I like extremely well. In my 357 it simply flattens varmints.

Yep, casting those for 44 mag with brass MP 250 RNFP mould. One of the three options...........solid, cup and HP. Solid runs 250, Cup drops at 240 and 238 for the HP, with my 3-1 alloy. Three parts pure to one part lino.

Creeker, can you enlighten us a little more about the load that goes with the bullet? Lube? Velocity? What mold are you using for these. I like it!

The mould is from NOE & is listed now as 360-158-WFN. Mine came with 3 pins, cup point, hollow point & solid. I'm not a fan of the hollow point pin [just personal]. The mould cast plenty large to size at .360". I use either LAR carnuba red or LBT blue soft for lube. The load is 12.5 grains of either AA9 or WC820 with a magnum primer for what I call 1200 FPS though current data shows a bit more & from my 7 1/2" barrel could be closer to 1300. The lot I've used most were cast from range lead & test 12-14 BHN. The load is a shooter from the Ruger 8 groove barrel.

Just what it says. Nothing extra, not even tin. Comes out to around 14 BHN (LBT tester) after three weeks, air cooled. Being a retired plumber, I have more pure, than anything else. Cheapest way for me, to get close to W/W alloy, without the hassle. You want harder, go to 50-50 or even 1-3 ratio.

I have had most Luck and confidence in pure with tin. So having "mostly pure" this should work as well for you.

10:1 for hard a d 20:1 for HP. Now Im a powder coater so that allows me softer without fear of leading. Most "regular" HP expand about perfect impacting @ 1200 fps. On smaller HP a but more velocity andon the larger HP, a bit less.

Lots of guy advocate 20-1 and 16-1 (pure to tin) for HP's. All my firearms like fat bullets. I size to .358 for 9mm, .360 for 38/357 and .433 for my 44's. I doubt very much that much pure, will drop that large, from most moulds. RCBS moulds, sure won't. I'm more concerned with accuracy than HP expansion. YMMV.

Ive been considering a couple NOE moulds, but with the current situation they are out of stock on everything. Ive got enough to keep me busy for a while, but hopefully this summer they will be back and I can add a few to my arsenal.

Stihl you might check out hollowpointmold.com. Eric can convert molds to HP and often has some for sale. He does good work. I have a couple of LEE molds he has converted to a HP mold. Others on this Fourm have conversations from Eric and I doubt you would find any here that are unhappy.

I personally don't care for NOE's RG (Rube Goldburg) HP pin system on the bottom of the mould. I prefer MP's side pin arrangement. Doesn't get in my way, ladle casting or bottom pouring, as the RG system does. Accurate gets my business for non HP's. Tom doesn't do HP's.

All three if these are 45 Colt fired all with same loading of 9g Unique but cast harder alloy. Maybe 15/16 bhn.

Eriks gotten kind of expensive lately, up to $80.00/cavity, plus shipping. Until lately this was more than SC Lyman HP moulds would sell for. With the current panic going on, it's not so far out of line as I had originally thought. I just saw one of his 2 cavity moulds sell for over $200.00 on ebay. This was one of the inset bar conversions, on a mould that would have been about my last choice for an HP conversion. Ahhh.... the power of the credit card. For the sake of clarity, I'm not trying to say that Eriks work is anything less than top notch, and I have another one to send him. Damn the cost for this one, it's what I want.

For me that's not the issues. Already set up for conventional lubing bullets. Would be a waste, with equipment sitting idle. Besides, it gives me something to do, in retirement, to lube and or check bullets. PC is a oxymoron with bullets that have lube grooves. IMO Fine for casters, just starting out. I've been doing it my way, for over forty years, with satisfying results. Not about to change.
