I started smoking at 15 years old. I quit when I was 36(10 years ago)
Now if I could only give up the alcohol.....
Quit smoking 39 years ago. I had a miserable cold and I thought, "Why am I doing this when I don't enjoy it any more?"

Now the alcohol. I was interviewing a new Dr. the other day and we were discussing Statins. The Dr. is not a fan of Statins, one reason he says they are hard on your liver. I told him I wanted to save room to damage my liver with bourbon. He asked about my average consumption and when I told him he waved his hand dismissively and said, "You gotta enjoy life too." The interview went well.

On another forum Rick pretty much called out the Hollywood crowd, so not to drift a hunting thread:
I went to school with a guy who was more than a little bit weird, then forgot about him till someone said he did the special effects for "The Deep"(?). His father, by the way, was a nice guy and a close friend to my sister's in-laws. I went to his father's funeral, but he was a no-show.

I started smoking on a shooting bet with my best friend from high school (it was a tie). Corn cob pipes and Sail it was. Didn't start cigarettes until college, but they really hit the spot. Camel Wide filters, a Zippo full of Ronsonol, and Dr. Pepper were a way of life for 18 years, as was at least monthly high 16-low 17 minute 5K runs, couple of full marathons, and 50-70 miles a week. When I had a cold I'd smoke Salem Lights, and clove cigarettes helped a sore throat. Finally put the smokes down in 2012 and have missed them just about every day since. I told my wife years ago that if I get a terminal diagnosis the very next thing I'm doing is lighting up. Alcohol never did a whole lot for me and I never did drugs, but man, tobacco.....

A generation of ill-educated, lazy, cell-phone addicts who found the government gives them money for being ill-educated, lazy, and cell-phone addicts.

Mushrooms taste like dirt.

What's with those hundreds of wee sparrow-like birds and the neighbor's holly tree berries?

You're supposed to wash the dirt off before you eat them.

Lead article on the front page of the paper today: hundreds of jobs at $15/hour and no applicants; farm labor is $16.50/hour for eight hours and time and a half over eight hours no applicants.
Hmm. I'm just under $30.00/hr for seriously skilled work. I think I must be a $40.00/hr man now, if starting wages are $15.00/hr. I guess my employer will just have to raise his prices to accommodate my increase. Isn't that how it works?

"OK, OK, I'm going as fast as I don't want to go!"
Speaking of cell phones, my wife and I have a rule. No phones out when on a date.

We sit and talk and hold hands (still, after 28 years) and are amazed at how many complete families sit there during dinner and never say a word as ALL of them are on their phones.

A study was done as to why restaurants were experiencing a lower turnover rate. Yep, cell-phones. Customers would play with their phones before picking up their menus, play with them while eating, play with them after eating, and once again after being given the bill.

I don't care who you are, this is just cool!
You'll have to go to YT to view it however, the owner doesn't allow remote links.
