Yesterday and today were just absolutely GORGEOUS. High 80s in the afternoon, mid-50s overnight. Little-to-no smoke showing.
We did a local drive-around today, and most of the freeways that surround us are in some phase of construction. One such project that I am glad to see under way is the portion of SR 60 between Moreno Valley and Beaumont, called "The Badlands". It was the home ground of the Clantons and McLaurys (yup, those hombres from Tombstone, AZ) after the Civil War was over, and was known for cattle rustling well into the 20th Century. More recently, it retains its bad rep due to traffic volumes 3x-5x more than what it was designed to manage. It was part of my old beat area from 1982-87, and was the scene of many nasty, ugly collisions in tule fog that I helped CHP handle on graveyard shift. It is now getting expanded to 3 lanes each way, and a lot of the curvy and poorly-banked roadway is getting updated and upgraded. There is probably a year's worth of work left, after a year of work so far. About time!
