Before I started reloading I wasn’t shooting as much. So 100 to 300 rounds in any centerfire cartridge or shell, and a brick of .22 LR was enough to get me through a shortage.
Today if I had a range in my backyard I’d be in trouble. I don’t shoot as often as some of you with personal ranges or who have rightly earned a good retirement. So 2500 to 3500 is about what we shoot in a year.
The way I’m shooting currently, I’ll be good for 5 to 7 years with powder, primers 4 to 5, lead 5, but jacketed hunting bullets is my short supply. That’s ok, I’ll practice this summer with cast, then sight in with the 180gr Partitions (I’ve got the last 50 loaded) before bear season opens in mid August. I did pick up a hundred and seventy-five Sierra 180gr ProHunters, same weight and flat base like the Partitions, so in all reality I could be fine for the next decade if I was conservative with my annual scope re-zeroing before hunting season.
I’ve said it before, I got lucky this time/wised up! I doubled down on primer and powder acquisition right before Covid broke out. Sportsman’s Warehouse had primers them on sale for months, all brands $20-25 per K. I was picking up a few per week. Yes they had limits set. I just wish I’d have bought those “Expensive” primers at the LGS that were running $33 per K. Hindsight is 20/20.
