Its a Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel.

Its accurate. So that "covers" allot. Its light at just 6# 4 oz. Powerful enough for my game & Distance.
It was used for the taking of my #1buck.
I just installed thats my current favorite svope. A 3-12 Hawke 30wa Scope.

What's your [favorite rifle] & why ?
Wow, that's a tough question.

Unfortunately, it’s not a rifle I still have. And even worse there is more than one.

An old Remington model 541-T rimfire .22 that was not only incredibly accurate but far lighter than the heavy barrel 541-T I traded it for.

A 1903 Springfield that wasn’t collector’s grade because it had gone through an arsenal re-build but was in excellent condition.

And there were others….

BUT, I still have the first rifle I even shot, that was my father’s rifle – That one is never going away.

Wow! Nothing like asking who the favorite child is to start a discussion!

How about this one, it started out as a Springfield Model 1866. I married it to a Harpers Ferry 1841 lock and stock to create a nice 50-70 rifle.

IMG_3161.jpeg

Or this one, a Springfield Model 1922 that was converted to 22 Hornet.

IMG_0399.jpeg

Or this Winchester 1895 that is currently chambered in 405 WCF.

IMG_0966.jpeg

Or this Italian copy (Navy Arms) of the Charleville Musket.

There are others, like the Ruger 77/22 with the Winchester Model 52 barrel. The Burnside Fifth Model that I got from Pop, and many muzzleloaders I have built.

All have been modified. All have taken game. All are nearly perfect, for me.

What are your choices?

favorite rifle to me covers a lot of latitude.

i got 3 favorite deer rifles. [and one i don't se even though i shot my biggested deer with it]
2 most favorite lever guns.
a favorite 30-30.
and a most favorite pair of cast bullet rifles,, one more favorited,,, just because it's easier to get brass for.
i don't really have a favorite mil-surp though unless you count the 7.5 swiss K-31 i chopped up with a hack saw and a plane that i use to deer hunt with every 5 or so years because i keep forgetting i have it.

Tough decision; the one I've wanted the longest and the most is a 1876 Winchester caliber .45-60. They are semi-collector and one in shootable condition was more than I could afford. Kesselring's one day had a Uberti copy in .45-60 satisfying the desire and I came home with it. The cartridge is easy to make by simply shortening .45-70 cases.

That Steve McQueen used this rifle in the movie Tom Horn heightened the desire. Correctly, Tom Horn was using a 1894 Winchester in .30 WCF at that time of his life, but Hollywood is never quite correct.

After this selection, I'm like Ric in that there are too many memories for each rifle and handgun in my modest collection.

That's a tough one...
But I have to say, my Howa 1500 in .308win. The barrel is shortened and threaded for suppressor, and is bedded in a very ergonomic GRS Berserk stock. It has a nice Timney trigger, and a Zeiss 3-12x50 in super- low mounts.

It turned out really well- balanced, is extremely comfortable to shoot- and is easy to shoot from field positions. And it has never malfunctioned
in.any way!

Well “My Favorite Rifle”, that’s a very tough question like Kevin says:

Wow! Nothing like asking who the favorite child is to start a discussion!

I’ll add to that, you’re favorite dog.

Boy, bolt, lever, pump, single shot, wow answering that will require some serious thought.
Some of my favorite rifles are down the road when I sold my Winchester takedowns and High Walls. Beautiful and often quite unique.
Ok Bolt Guns:

Winchester 1917 338-06 I was gifted from my BIL 59 years ago. I rebarreled from the original 30-06.

R. F. Sedgley my cast bullet 30-06

Lever guns are hard, but:

IMG_3768.jpeg
Top a 94 flat band 32 WS, middle a 94 SRC in 30-30 from the 20’s, bottom a short tang 71 that’s either a clean up gun made from parts in house at Winchester or more likely a 71 carbine with a added full mag and a flat band. I think this 348 is my favorite lever, handles fantastic.

But, then there’s Savage. Having been a Winchester lever takedown and single shot collector it pains me to say that Savage had some unique stuff.

303 deluxe, perch belly, 1/2 round 1/2 octagon, awesome sights. A beautiful rifle.

Pumps:

IMG_3761.png
Top is a Colt Lighting 44-40 with British proof marks, next a 141 35 rem, then the middle rifle a Remington model 12 octagon 22LR, probably my favorite rifle. Bottom two are Remington Model 25’s

"OK, OK, I'm going as fast as I don't want to go!"
My favorite is my No4 Mk1 Enfield.

Simply because I have fond memories of shooting it when I was young. It is the exact same rifle from my fathers collection.

Because of that, I'm an Enfield nut and love collecting, shooting and reloading .303 British.

Funny how simple yet fond memories establish habits.

My parents divorced when I was a baby and I only got to see my father a couple times a year growing up. When I got out of the Army in 1985, I settled down near him so we could catch up on the quality time we missed out on in my childhood.

I'm glad I did as he passed away from cancer 6 years later at the young age of 57. At least I got 6 years with him. He was an awesome, loving man.

Mine is the 1903 Springfield that my grandfather gave me. The the forend and handguard had been cut down so the last 12 inches of barrel are bare. The action is a 1927 nickel steel and the barrel is a 1944 SA. A Lyman 48 aperture sight is installed. There is something about a 1903. It has been too long since I have shot it.

I have been thinning the herd and am at the point where all of the "easy" ones are gone. When I think about what would be next they all have attractions or memories that make it a challenge.

I love my 03 as well. Mine is a 1921 with the original barrel But it got a C-stock at some point, which I prefer anyway. But my favorit is my 1885 Win High Wall in .32-40. I've talked about it here before. I shoot it regularly and will be shooting it this coming New Year's Day in a Silver Bullet Match.

Rifle is a full octagon but I don't think it is original to the action. Wear marks on the barrel under the forearm (palm rest??) do not line up with anything on the forearm. The barrel was "freshened up" at some point in its life and is not a .33, but bigger than a standard .32 caliber. The chamber was never touched so to shoot the correctly sized bullet requires breech seating since stuffing it into a case would preven the cast from chambering.

The rifle will shoot sub-MOA if I do my part. It came with a windage adjustable Lyman tang sight and 17A front. But I put a 15X Lyman Super Targetspot on her. Rifle has a single set trigger which maintains the perfect lines of the Highwall (I think double-sets and the bigger lever are fugly) and makes shooting her a true exercise in enjoyment. Oh, and recoil is nil with a 170 gr bullet.

I just realized that I don't have any good pics of the rifle with the scope. All I have now is this pic of the rifle, with no scope. I think I took this when I was making a repair to a crack in the forearm.20230202_173407a.jpg
