Ya,,and the way they rape the woodlands now,,you can really stretch a gun barrell!
3,4,500 yards,,hold on back,hold a little light,hold about a foot,,,270 just does the bang flop thing,
Just like its been doing since ww2.

I got ta handle one last weekend. Was 589$ same as Go Wilde camo guns.

I liked it. Felt as I expected. It was a 243. I agree barrel seemed short. Not a fan if comps on everything. They are just noise makers to me.

I have a whole list of calibers from 22-50 with fewer missing than on hand . 338 is the only one I feel like I missed something with .

I think I have at least 2 cases in each caliber step .

Each has some reason for me having it .
222,223,22-250 little critters.
No 6/243 just never cared for them.
257,25-06 utility, Dad's love .
6.5 Japanese and 264WM ??????
6.8 SPC neat cartridge , platform sharing ....
7×6.8spc ,275 Rigby/7×57,280 6oz gophers to bull elephant gives up very little to a 30 and makes it later.
30-30,06',7.7 Japanese,it's hard to hate the 06'.
32 Rem, had an 8x57 . The 32 is in a kind of cool brush gun , but it's only advantage over the 30-30 is it being rimless.
380,9,38 Short,38 Special,357 ,358 Win . I really wanted a 9×57 but if the 358 won't get it I probably don't have enough gun .
40 ..... I just like it better than the 9mm it's the only loaner .
44 . Just C&B but in 58,60, and Dragoon.
45 all the cases Colts and down ,Raptor , 45-70 and a front stuffer . Just a big ole hunk of lead that will break all the stuff it won't poke a hole in .
Big skip here up to the 50 MLs . None of mine are fast twist so anything over about a 225 gr conical is useless , but it's still a big ole' hunk of lead and the long 24-28" barrels match 06' ME .
410,20,16,&12 ga in 2-3/4" , 2-1/2"and 3" .
There's a 2-9/16" 1-1/4oz marked 10 ga double also.

I've run numbers for weight and speed and shot most of them into some sort of comparison medium at some point in the last 30 years. Some were a big surprise, some not so much.
I never had anything in 6/243 until I bought a Savage Switchback in 6ARC; possibly the sweetest shooting rifle I own. Very accurate and in load developement I have (5) different pwds that will sling most all the weights I load, from 75's to 108's. Right now, because I have a lot, BL-C2 is what I'm using with Leverevolution next up in the que.
Took the action and barrel out of the crappy Savage stock and plunked it into a Oryx Chassis and other than it looking cool, it's exceptionally functional, with added weight and fair balance. I only use it (so far) as a benchrest shooter.
My first recorded chrony info;

Yep; it's a cute little thing but it'll sling a wad pretty fast. I don't hot rod mine and there isn't any recoil to speak of. Matter of fact I don't even have the butt of the rifle on my shoulder.

I dont care for the Loudenboomers on the ends of barrels either. I prefer the stubby barrels on rifles, but I dont "Long Range" anything anymore other than paper.

I picked up a ruger predator a few years ago for a dual purpose rifle... long range (600yds) targets at the club, and eventually for pronghorn nr Wyoming/Idaho/Montana. I hate seeing folks willy-nilly shots way out, at ranges they have no sense in doing. I've been taught to get close, and then get closer... probably because of all of my shotgun hunting experience. My 6.5 wears a 6x leupold, and to me would be a great 200-300 yd gun... just like the others in my corral. Like Walter, I have a good 308, 30-06, or 300 sav for most of my other hunting. A 35 or 444 for thump in timber, if needed.

I just like the 6.5mm bullets. Great sectional density and ballistic coefficient. I think I was ahead of my time in this regard (in America, not in the rest of the world). My first 6.5 was a 6.5/'06 Ackley Improved custom built by Ackley himself. This was in 1958. Following this I had (still have, don't use) a 264 Win Mag. My current go to rifle is a Kimber 84M Classic in 260 Remington. It will do anything a 6.5CM will do.

So.... I like the caliber. It has been very effective in many different cartridges.

I will not be likely to buy any more new rifles. I am 86 years old and there is nothing I would use a rifle for that I don't already have a rifle(s) for. That being said, if I were to buy a new rifle it would likely be a 6.5 CM. The reason(s) have already been mentioned, availability being most important, but not mentioned is its ability to handle long bullets without them being seated deep within the case. 6.5 CM won't do much, if anything, a 260 Rem won't do but when you have a long bullet the powder room ends up about the same even though the CM case is shorter than the 260 Rem because the bullet in the case takes up the space difference.

I would never buy another 6.5 in the Magnum class (264 WM, 26 Nosler, 6.5 PRC, etc.) They are just too much! Too much powder burned, too much recoil, too much barrel wear etc.

Long live the 6.5mm caliber, in whatever package it comes in!
