I have a 5.5 inch Super Red in 45 Long Colt / 454 Casull.
Now I have the 9.5 inch version also.
The revolver is amazingly accurate.
I'd sold it to one of my relatives, and I got it back this past weekend.
I put the " Cushioned Pach's ( Sorbathane ) Grips " on the revolver. Takes a lot of the bite out of things.

Pretty easy to see why I wanted this revolver back in my gun safe.

Prodigal son?

Nothing better than bringing shooting arns back home.

These days,I get the kicks having the youngins to buy guns that will only make sense in a few years down the rd?

And then sit back and watch the litebulb come on....revolvers',especially"interesting" ones, seem to get there faster than semi's,just sayin.

Nice rig Ben.

Thanks,

It is a real SHOOTER with a fairly wide variety of load combinations.

My SRH in 44 mag, 7.5 inch barrel, is amazingly accurate too. Rick coached me enough on handgun shooting and loading to get me an honest 1.5 inch 5 shot group at 100 off the bench.

I've never shot this one at 100 yards, but I've got the scope rings and scope to do it.

Ben, it is a whole new world. Good ammo is required. Grip tension and how you hold it is everything.

Nice cannon, Ben.

Have same finish on a 7.5" 454. When I received it I bought 1 box of Hornady 240-454 loads just to try. I fired at 50 yards 1 shot in the center. Figured I could only ruin the group from there & put those snappy snappers away. My only complaint is the overtravel. It's not bad but it's there & causes inconsistencies. Really apprehensive to let anyone clamp the target gray finish hard enough to drill the extremely hard ss ruger used.

Any idea on your velocity? Haven't tried that powder myself.

I need to get back to work with that revolver. I also need to find a good load with the 30 carbine BH. That is proving to be a bit more difficult.

The .30 carbine revolver holds the dubious honor ( with me ) as one of the most ear piercing sounds that my ears have ever been subjected to.

Come and shoot with me. I will fire a few from my 10" K hornet Contender. A full case of 1680 and a 35 vmax and the fireball is impressive.

Paul doesn't like mine, even with cast. Says it is too loud. With 3 gr or so of Unique and a 225438 it isn't bad. Well, not from right behind it.

6 shots from a 45 cal. handgun you can cover with a penny @ 25 yds?
I can easily see why your glad to have that one back.

That's a nail driver of a load and bullet that will handle anything it's pointed at for sure!

Oh, yes--the 30 Carbine Blackhawks are a real eardrum drill. Plugs & muffs. Once that gets handled, the revolver can really shoot. My current example is a fairly recent one, c. 2012 or so. Throats are all .308"-.3085", grooves are .308". I size Lyman #311316 to .309" and run them behind a 100%-density load of H-110, WW-296, AA-9, or WC-820. Velocities run about 1450-1500 FPS and I hit iron coyote cutouts at 200 yards when playing at my club range. 5.0 grains of Herco under a plain-based 120 grain flatnose I had Mountain Molds make up for the 32/20 revolvers is a lot more docile, and these shoot very well for me on small varmints to 75 yards. Like the 25/20 and 32/20 rifle rounds, a Rem #6-1/2 primer tightened groups up markedly for me in 30 Carbine full-potential loads. With the more docile loads, a small pistol cap did just fine.

Ben,
You mentioned possibly scoping it. What kind of scope & mount?

Reason I ask is mine ate the weigand(sp?) mount in 6 full power loads. They refunded me & said the 3-12 Burris with 3 rings was possibly to much weight for it. Been considering the same mount with a smaller lighter optic.
