Dale @ hope the replacement goes well for you. I don't know if the ends are wrong, but the rod interferes with the front spring on one side. Most I've seen are on top of the knuckle, not below. He has another he said he'd check - this one had a lift kit he removed so wasn't stock, who knows how they put it together..

Went shooting with the wife. Still raining so we went indoors.
She is still getting better and better, the red dot helped her confidence a bunch.

The target is mine with the 624 at 10 yards. That is 66 rounds. The 9 high bothers me.
4.5 gr of Titegroup with the NOE version of the HG 503. Sized to .431+ after powder coating.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
More fencing. Checked the weather, it was 86F yesterday. It hit 88 today. I finally broke off into flat ground and only one hole is going to require the rock drill. Took some pics. Not really a good representation of the work involved! Also got one of how tools seem to get mixed in with junk and debris when you aren't paying attention. More of the same tomorrow I suppose...

Got word this morning the armored prairie dogs are back, so went over to do some plinking. I clearly need to practice more with the 44 Special, only hit 9 of 20 at 150 yards. Best guess was that the 32-20 was going to take at least 24" of holdover, but I need more practice to know the sight picture instead of just guessing. Got 4 of 20, but no knockdowns. A couple of friends are starting to refer to it as the "32 Atomic" due to the muzzle blast.

Despite shooting silhouette loads in the short barrel, the old 357 Blackhawk hit 14 of 20. After the first shot, folks did stop complaining about the noise of the .32.

As expected, the guy with the .357 Herrett cleaned up, I think he missed only 2 shots in 50. With any luck, we'll have a couple more good Spring days for this before the grass gets too tall to see the silhouettes.
Even standard-loaded 32/20 WCF loads are barky as h--l. I'm not sure what it is about the 30 and 32 caliber handguns, but ALL OF THEM are loudmouthed once you get past 900 FPS. The 327 Federal in a 4.25" barrel might be the worst offender, even worse than the full-potential 30 Carbine Blackhawk.

I always figured it was the bore diameter: all the hot gases blasting out having to fit through the small bore. Even a .357 has about 20% more volume for the same length. Some of the hotter 32 loads are similar to 38 or 357 loads that may still bark, just not as hard. The .25 wildcats can be even worse.

Got out this AM and sandblasted the armored prairie dogs and other silhouettes, checked them all over for damage, then gave them all a couple coats of paint. They seem to be holding up well.

The 30/31 cal handguns can make noise way beyond what they are. The recoil is non existent but the noise can be obnoxious.

Might be why my 32 H&R loads are kept mild? And a 327 Federal? Love the idea but have never pulled the trigger.

True that, Brad. The 30 Luger and 7.62 x 25 Tokarev are both blasty little monsters as well. My SP-101 in 327 Federal clears out my local indoor range pretty effectively. San Bernardino gangbangers can't hang with the report. Gotta be careful with these loads in fault zones, like where I live. They could set off earthquakes.

How short is the barrel on that SP 101? I can only imagine what a full load would sound like in a 3” barrel.

For an obnoxious report, I think the 22tcm ranks right up there with the 30 carbine.
I tried published loads with 110 and they were just as loud as factory loads. I tried hs6 and the noise was a bit better, but pressures got way too high so I abandoned that attempt.

Yesterday, I went to a friend's house to help him with an 80% ar15 lower. His son gave him one and when he heard I've done them he asked me to mill his. Nope!, but I'll supervise to keep it legal. It's so hard to not demonstrate, but by law I can't touch it.
Anyhow, he hogged out the pockets with a drill and milled the trigger pocket with a router before we quit for the night. Turns out he only needed a little guidance on handling the router and has the technique down pat. I'll be back in 2 weeks and he decided to wait until then to finish it.
He needs no more help, but he showed me a picture of one a friend did and doesn't want his to look like that.

Most of my magnum handgunning now gets done with standard-weight cast SWCs in a given caliber prompted along at 900-1100 FPS. I do keep a hand in with full-potential loads about 10% of the time, just to get my YA-YAs out. Mostly it's pretty sedate, though.

There aren't too many handgun taskings that can't be well-addressed by a cast SWC at 900 FPS, esp. from a 44 Magnum or 45 Colt. The Lyman #452423 @ 900 FPS won't strain my 625 much, either.

not all the big calibers are quiet.
touch off some full on 375 or 445 super mag loads and the 30 carbine isn't so bad.
I can see why some of those silhouette guy's wear helmets.
