I lost my temper today.
The wife had to mail something at the PO today. I parked across the street by the intersection. She did her business came out and tried to cross the street in the crosswalk. 5 vehicles never slowed down went past her. A group of cars were coming on the side I was parked on. I through open my door and a car had to swerve not to take my door off. I calmly walked to the center of the nearest drive lane started shouting at the oncoming traffic about letting any persons in a crosswalk have the right of way. Pointing to her and then at them.
My action was probably wrong. But you have to put your foot down some times.

Trespassing isn't a problem around here. You must have written permission, in your pocket, from the landowner. If not, it's off to jail. One can post property two ways. Signage or paint a section of tree bark with a swath of purple paint. I use the paint cause it can't be removed, easily.
Ya gots to catch 'em to arrest 'em!

Well I just bought a bag of dog food, good quality stuff so was cheap, but it was $52 two months ago, last week $65.
Living in Alaska freight is a big factor.
I happened to be with my wife when she picked up dog food for the week a little bit ago. $165.00!!! I shouldn't complain, she make twice what I do now, but still...

Oh, and it's only going to go up, up, up!

Well had some gray squirrels hanging around today. I have never saw a gray squirrel on my back yard till today. Across the drive but never in my yard. Figure they are coming back for seconds.

Never sold a morel, they never made it past my plate or pantry.
Most people around here eat a few fresh picked and fried . As for the rest just dry them, seal them in quart jars, and eat on them thru the year. Soak them in milk to bring them back and fry in butter.
I share mine with the two neighbors that like them . Would have given them half them to anyone if asked ask.Ye giving good money and work away. Oh well.

Going back out in the morning. I have one more good spot on public land to try this year. If you have a public hunting or fishing license it is a free for all. Just have to cut off at the ground and cover the root.
The spot hard to get to, usually no one hits ot but me. Going to have to take my kid to help me get back there.
These I will be drying out in the stove, or cooking right away.
Good for you man! I always think I'm going to go out looking for them, but it gets so busy I never have time to remember to go! There's a local guy that keeps a tab every year. Sometimes it's in the low 100's, other years closer to 1000!

My day got better. I've seen hundreds of freshenings and it never ceases to amaze me. These little guys were up jumping from rock to rock and hour or so after birth!

I and the boy make time in the spring. It's one of our things.
I take him out about 4 times. I get home at 5:30 am. Pick him up, then we are in the woods by 6. We hunt till 7:30 then I drop him off Ten till Eight, at the school. Then I go home and sleep till 3:30 pm.
If we were lucky enough, to have found more then we had time to harvest. Then we grab a sandwich and a couple pops "sodas for you non Ohioans", Then go back out at 3:30 to grab some more mushrooms, before I head back to work at 6:30pm.

Were you lucky enough to get a ewe lamb to replace the lost one?
Or at least a good doe kid to up the Goat milk production, if you do choose, later?

good on ya Kevin.
if someone actually chooses to use a cross walk they get the right of way from me.
if they are just cutting across the highway or whatever they know they gotta take their chances so i keep a steady pace and let them decide if they wanna bounce off the grill or wait 2 more seconds.

so you guys would be proud of me.

i went into a gun store and 2 green houses today.
i had some cash in my pocket.
aaaand i left all three with the same amount as i started the day with.
wasn't easy though.
the G-boy tried having a fit [with me] over buying him an ice cream, he got grabbed and drug out of the store then a full on butt kick right in front of the glass windows.
he decided it wasn't worth the effort to get another one and got in the car while a couple of older people walking out laughed at him.

unfortunately for him his dad was outside at his place of work up on the hill above and seen the whole thing.
he texted Littlegirl to bring him up there and he got a butt chewing as well as the butt kick.
i had to get out of the car to keep from laughing when his little sister was saying hi bubber, ha bubber and laughing [she's like 15-16 months old] he was like shut up, this is serious, i'm really in trouble.

Last month I came off the main road in town and as I did there was a person in the cross walk. I stopped. TWO CARS WENT AROUND ME. It was a single lane (each direction) road. The guy passin in shoulder very narrowly missed person in walk. As I was shaking my head a police car was approaching from Opposite direction. If he was observant, he would have seen what just happened. But he went right past. I was still stopped in road. No light or stop sign. So HE DID NOT OBSERVE person in cross walk & signs saying to stop!

All I can say is sorry man. I understand your frustration.

Warm humid day today with rain off & on so I decided to go into the basement and disassemble all of the grow lights and table to get more room back. Also cut up a pile of cardboard boxes for recycling which freed up more room! Very comfortable in the basement on a day like today. I keep it at 50% humidity and the temp for most of the summer is about 55 / 60 deg
When I was at The studio Wednesday I found this old photo taken in 1976 ( 3 years into my job) I believe it was used for advertising purposes
Pretty nostalgic to me........ I'm on the left and my two bosses , Guy Cali and Jim Nicolais

No, she'll dry off. If the lambs aren't suckling the hormones to produce the milk drop and she dries off, natures way of avoiding mastitis. We don't milk the sheep, they just raise the lambs. These little goat kids will be on the doe for while before we worry about extra milk for anything else.

Yep. The Sheriff Department uses dogs and helicopters here. Few years back, on the fourth of July weekend, that was the case on my acreage.
You have to be kidding! We needed at least a rape or violent assault to get a dog or copter! Different places, different policies I guess.

500+ miles and 11.5 hours of driving, but I got some real nice harness. I don't think I will ever use Google Maps again. We could have just gone straight to Burlington to Montpelier and over to Danville. But nooooooooooo! The phone sent us over every little 2 lane under construction and down several dirt roads! Literally, dirt roads that were no more than tractor roads! We saw parts of the Northeast Kingdom that I'm somewhat sure had never been explored before! (Ok, that's an exaggeration) It got us there, but I'm sure we spent an extra 45 minutes at least making 180's around lakes and mountains. Asked the lady selling the harness the quickest way back. Sure enough, 3 roads! That's all I had to cover in Vermont was 3 roads and one was an interstate with a 65 mph speed limit! Maybe there's some setting I missed on the map thingy or something, but I'm seriously digging out my old Rand McNally atlas's and using them from now on!

And tomorrow we're headed 100 miles south to pick up a pool. I'm pretty sure I'm developing callouses on my butt.

If memory serves it wasn't a trespasser they were looking for, was I believe an escaped felon. They thought they had tracked him to John's property. Didn't find him there though.

won't be on for a bit.
headin out in the morning for Utah.
probably do the tourist thing for a couple of days and then when everyone heads out after memorial day i'll put the boat on one of the two lakes and do some fishing.
one lake has trout and some bass.
the other has stripers, some sterile walleye, and a few others.
20 years ago i'd have headed out in the desert a bit further and went after the trophy size blue gill they had before they let the lake fill in with cat tails.
i do know a spot on the one lake where i can probably catch some decent ones though so maybe take the kids over there.
i'm not even gonna take the ultralight pole along though.

Harvested a bunch of Golden Oyster mushrooms. Between cleaning, soaking in salt water, canning, dehydrating, and freezing some we burnt up a lot of the day. We also had a Oyster mushroom, onion, and cheddar omelette for breakfast with home made salsa verde and toast with violet flower jelly. For an appetizer before Supper we sauteed more Oyster mushrooms in butter with a dusting of white pepper and sprinkled with fresh grated parmesan on Town House crackers with a semi sweet white wine.

Had to run to town for some groceries. Stopped at a Mennonite green house for some tomato and pepper plants. One of the owners told me the big tub of rhubarb plants I gifted them a few weeks ago were growing so well they have eaten some already. She would not let us pay for the tomatoes and pepper plants.

Worked on my flat bottom boat trailer for awhile. Oops, the deer camp neighbors just stopped over and want to ply me with whisky, gotta go.
