Back in Detroit, I came home from work and Max (shepherd husky mix) had cornered a groundhog on top of the differential of the motorhome. I promptly chained him up and got the garden hose out to knock the groundhog off the differential. That did the trick but the groundhog ran under the full size van parked in front of the motorhome and hid on top of the engine. So I started up the van and parked it on the street., figuring it would eventually leave.

Couple hours later, he's still there. Drove around the city, trying to throw him off. No dice. Even the engine heat didn't phase him. Parents lived on the next block over, so I went there to remove the engine cover, to get at the groundhog. Then, I poked him with a broomstick. Well, he decided to go into the fan shroud. :headbang:

Bright idea.gif I'll just start up the engine. Heard a thud, yep that convinced him all right. Surprised, he was gone but no evidence of blood.

55ºF. I think I'll go out to the sportsman club again this morning, and cut another tree. There is about 5 downed by storms, that someone needs to cut up. I hauled a lot of brush yesterday and my shoulder is feeling that...I shouldn't need to do any of that today, I hope.

We made the last trip to my Wifes cardiologist yesterday.
He says no need to come back as the only treatment for her heart issues are too invasive for her.
He told her to take nitro if she gets chest pain.
She has decided to forgo any more treatment for her incurable tumor as the side effects would do more harm than good.
We will keep her happy as we can and pain free.
I asked the Dr when hospice would be appropriate.
He says when she can no longer leave home and do the things she enjoys.
I will see that she never goes to a rest home.
We have already had one bad experience with one.
We have had 60 good years together.

I am saddened to read of Olivia Newton-John's passing.

I'm not sure that I can relate to most celebrity types. They live in a very different world than us mere mortals. Well, they have that illusion in many cases. I prefer the real world.
True, but back in the day the image/illusion was enough. She was a "good girl" that made it to the top. Wish we had more examples like her for our daughters to admire these days.

Linda Ronstadt is a heall of a talent, no doubt. Karen Carpenter really was a tragedy, and I agree, probably one of the best singing voices in history, her and Marilyn McCoo of the Fifth Dimension.
I was wondering about Marilyn and Gladys Knight a while back. I suppose both are old ladies now, I didn't look, but they sure did a great job in their prime.

It looks like I get to go salmon fishing for the first time in over a year of caring for my invalid wife.
A buddy called and invited to go fish the mouth or the Rogue River Friday.
The fall chinook are holing up in the mouth because the river temp is too warm for them to continue upstream.
The Grand daughter is staying with my wife.
I am pretty stoked.
Good for you Dale!!!!! Have fun and I hope you catch a boat load!

Oh the darned wood splitter project. I use an old enameled refrigerator drawer to cover up the Honda motor. Pulled the cover and there was a Garter snake. Before I could grab it it slithered into the engine. I got a flash light, necessitating a trip up the hill to the house. Can't find the snake! Took off the rewind, there the little bassturd is. Oops, slithered back out of sight. Grrrrrr! Took off the shroud, there he is, no no no, not into the back of the fly wheel. Okay, pull the motor off the splitter and shake it until a loop of snake dangles down. Got it, pulled it out and threw it in the pasture.

Re-install the motor, put the shroud on and the rewind, start the motor. Wait, what? Running way too fast, where's my idle. Pull the shroud back off. I had trapped a throttle return spring. Corrected that and the motor ran right. Drained the hydro oil, pumped out the lines, replaced the filter, refilled hydo oil. There, now it runs right. Now the tires. Pulled the wheels off, well I woulda if one wasn't rusted onto the hub. BFH and a few whacks got that off.

Now yesterday the low tire pressure light came on for my truck. The truck with the almost brand new tires! Yup, a construction screw dead center in the tread. Aaaarrrggghhh! Okay, fine, went to town got two used 13" tires for the splitter and took the wheel and tire off the truck to get plugged. Man, if these 285/20 wheels and tires get any heavier, I won't be able to wrassle them into a vehicle. Okay, tire plugged, splitter tires installed, go to load the big truck wheel/tire into Sue's Escape and the rim flipped up and the edge of the rim hit my arm bone just below my right elbow. Criminy, that hurt. Oh poop, my arm went into pain from the wrist to the shoulder.

Back home, wheel back on truck, wheels back on splitter. Still have some work on the splitter tomorrow, as I have a small piece that attaches to the lever to fabricate. Screw it, we are going for a bike ride. 61 miles later, Supper time. Supper over, bourbon time.Tomorrow's another day.
Ha! Sounds like you caught whatever I've been suffering from for 40 years! It's always the way though, little things become bigger things, become projects, become unbelievable messes! I think most guys get the same run of luck on a daily basis. If they don't, it's because they don't DO anything!

Tire plugging kits are available even at Wally World and it's not at all hard to do.

You and yours will remain in my thoughts and prayers Dale. Hard thing to go through, but she won't be alone or with strangers. That's counts for a whole lot in my book.

I'm sorry to hear that, Dale. Sounds as though the two of you have had a great life together and you're both lucky to have each other.

I keep two kits and extra strips on hand for what, non critical tires? I drove on plugged tires at speed on squad cars and trust plugs installed by people that have installed hundreds of them. My nearest neighbor has an "architectural wood" salvage business. Mostly. tearing down old dairy barns and log buildings. Our small road is festooned with nails and screws and other small sharp debris.

So sad that you and your wife have come to that inevitable chapter in your life's story. God bless her and you. My wife and I argue about who gets to go first, but when it is all off in the future it is funny, not so when it is for real.

I dread going to the scrap yard cause both times, I picked up sharp objects that required a tire plugging. :headbang:

I put if off, as long as possible. Brass, copper, aluminum and spent primers sure pile up fast.

Older Tele's are good stuff. Gal tried to sell me one yrs ago, I passed. Almost as stupid as passing on a old winchester levergun. I have heard that Danelectro makes a similar one that is pretty good.
