Tetanus vaccine was produced in horses. Administration to people who consumed horse meat on a regular basis sometimes resulted in an allergic reaction.

and that little 32 L revolver at the pawn shop... Bastiges! Locks up VERY tight. Very nice shape - EXCEPT! broken hammer spur! offered $275 for it. They said their $369 price took into affect the broken hammer. HAH! KMA! It will still be there when all this crap is all over and they can't give it away.

It's been a while since my last heresy, so I'm overdue.

OscarFT, GO BACK AND BUY THAT MODEL 30-1. The most superfluous part on any D/A revolver is its hammer spur, and J-frame hammers are easy to find and have fit--if they aren't R&R. And for pocket carry, the absent hammer spur is one less thing to hang up during draw.

I think he meant the nose was broken. Buy or make a new one, drive out the roll pin, remove broken one, reverse to install new one. Last I checked genuine Smiff ones were like $15 and came with a pin.

I understand OFT's disgust at $369 for a 'broken' example, but the 2" barrels are scarce in 32 SWL and the Model 30-1 went out of print in 1974. EVERY part on that revolver is refit-capable. If it IS the hammer nose, it's 10 minutes' work by an armorer to R&R that part.

My last nice-shape Model 30-1 I saw had the much more common 4" barrel and was priced at $500 at the Boise Gun Show--in 2010.

Took me three minutes to hate snow. Never went back to where it snows in winter since. I have never once had to shovel heat out of my driveway to get to work.

If I remember correctly it was because the vaccines/injections they were given were made from horse urine.
Tetanus Toxoid is the immunization typically used to prevent tetanus infection. Tetanus Antitoxin is used as a single incident protection in patients who are not current in their immunizations. It is made from the blood of horses that have been hyperimmunized.
Used to give my horses their Tetanus Toxoid injections.

Finished reading the last of Louie L'Amour's 18 books about the Sacketts.

I was given a box of Barnes .224 50-grain Varmint Grenades, so will be starting some load workup. Interesting looking bullets.

It is a model 31-1. 2". Serial is earlier in the range - prob mid-60's gun. Locks up TIGHT. couple dings, but nothing bad/sad. The back of the hammer spur is broken off. The floating firing pin is good. I considered just grinding it to a 'hammerless,' least for the time being. Would be fine and PERFECT for pocket carry!

I have no idea what cost and effort is to replace a complete hammer. School me. $? no brainer?

And last, yeah, paying sticker for a 'broken' gun chaps my tail. They DID say they would sell it OTD for $369. And yeah, I know they are desirable. I even tried the 'do you have ammo' - and then told the kid I KNOW you don't! LOL He didn't even know what 32L WAS!

is the consensus that I can't go wrong at $369? And yeah, really a rhetorical ?!!! I know... AND - I have EVERYTHING to load for it!

Keep me from kicking myself for hesitating...

That's Crazy I just discovered L'Amour about 6 months ago. I just finished Daybreakers, #6 In the Sackett series.
Emmett,
Do a search for the time sequence, rather than the dates of publication. It all started in the early 1600s with "Sackett", the telling of Barnabas and the reason for his leaving England, and continued with his American story in "To the Far Blue Mountains". After Barnabas, time skips forward seven generations to the mid-1870s and Tell (William Tell), Tyrel, Orrin, Orlando (Lando), Nolan, Logan, etc.

Read Sackett first then got the list by date, I figured they jumped around In time a bit.
Need to get the companion book, I hear it puts the whole thing together even with mentions of short story connections, Places, and characters in other books connected with the Sackets.

At that time I think it was all still horse based . Because of all the horse stuff already there the vaccine reacted badly .

Yep.

There are a series of books (5?) that are collections of his short stories. Also, he wrote an autobiography that tells much of his interesting life. He had been to all the places and did the things he wrote about. If one views him as just a writer of Western cowboy books, they are missing the essence of the man's writings and story telling, and a lesson in American history.

Decided to extend the snowshoe trail to a two mile loop. Forgive my hubris, but I even jogged on my Ojibwas for 100 yards to see if I still could. When we got back to the house I was running on P&V and dragged a gong with Vee legs outa the target shed and placed it 18 yards off the plowed driveway in case I decided to shoot a semi auto.

By the time I cam back to the house I wanted to shoot a .38-40. I started digging for ammo. Then I found 200 rounds of .45 auto-rim. So I dug in the safe for the Brazillian .45. Instead I came across a Combat Magnum 2 1/2" round butt, (are they all?) Grabbed 10 rounds of 158 grain RN .38's with 3.5 grains of Bullseye. My handgun skills have deteriorated badly, so I was delighted when I kept all 10 in about 5" with 7 in the 3" bull. I'd gotten this chunky gun in a trade and had forgotten it was in the safe. It has cosmetic issues but was an old Sheriff's Dept. detectives gun from up North and is really tight. It spent a lot of time in a holster, then sliding around a desk drawer and finally under a pickup seat. I do believe it deserves a little TLC. At the very least a good cleaning and lubing.

Then I'll look to see if I can find a Tyler or Pachmayr grip adapter. Failing that a set of round butt K frame compacts.
