I made a post on another thread that caused my mind to drift back to something that's been wandering in and out of it lately: Thinning the ex-military rifle herd.
I have several C&R rifles I bought from my deceased reloading mentor and best friend One is an original and all matching 1895 Chilean Mauser (Chileno), and the other is a cut-down but all matching 1891 Argentine Mauser. Also, there is an original but non-matching 1896 Swedish Mauser I bought through Gunbroker. The first two are Loewe stamped so are antiques and can be sold without going through a dealer, but the Swede is dated 1901 and would require dealer involvement. I sold four other ex-military rifles via consignment at the local gun store, but it closed last month.
Options:
1. Give them to my son. However, he doesn't reload (yet) and doesn't even have the time to shoot the .30-30 Winchester Model 94 I gave him about four-years-ago.
2. Ask my local friend and occasional shooting pard if he's interested. He has a C&R license, too, so a dealer would not be required.
3. Ask if I can post a notice at the local range.
Non-option: Selling through Gunbroker.
Anyway, that's my drift of the day.
