Happy to report that the weather is taking a turn for the better here. I ventured to our shooting house to test fire some Lyman 311334 GC bullets. The rifle is a 308 Remington 24" 700 VS with a Hart barrel. The LC brass were loaded with the 311334/ .3095" bullets to an OAL of 2.85". Powder charges of 17 and 18 grains of SR 4759 were sparked with a federal 210 primer. The bore was wiped out of any oil before the testing was started. Distance was 100 yards fired from the benchrest, and aided by 2 wind flags. The target is black shoot and see 1" dots.
Starting with the 17 grain powder charge shot #1 hit the dot at 12 O'clock. The next 2 were in the black.
Switching to the 18 grain charge Shots #4 - #9 were fired at the lower dot. I'm very pleased with the results. Velocities are poscan0001.jpg

Very nice shooting indeed...I have a Rem VS in 308 as well..and it is a tack driver...I don't remember trying the 311344 in it yet..must have but don't remember...
I have a # of that powder...so of course after seeing this I will have to try that loading....:)

The 334 has turned in stellar results in all my 30 cals....

What other molds do you have?

My VS just loves plain base bullets as well and will shoot groups like that with them..

Do I sense a postal match in the future?...:):):)

Again great shooting, excellent post...thanks...Dan

Very good, I bet that put a smile on your face!. The clean barrel and cold-start flyers aren't bad, either. What lube were you using?

Dan, I have several other 30 cal molds. Another one that shoot very good for me in three of my 30 cal rifles is the Lyman 311332GC. I've won several matches with this bullet in my 30-30 Crowther High Wall 1885. Strangest rifle I have ever owned. It's been an adventure since I bought it. Did an article in the Single Shot Journal back in 2105 or 2016. I have attached a photo of it to this post. Yes it's in a one piece stock. Ugliest rifle I've ever owned. However it's been a ball to work with. Shot it in the Wilton Rod & Gun Club Vermont match this past Sunday and went stright for the 40 target coarse of fire. That is 10 shots on steel plates at 100, 150, 200, and 250 yards. Bv-20 30 30 Whatever.jpg sm.jpg
See C. S. Landis's Book Woodchucks and Wood Chuck Rifles. Page 163 plate. for more of the storie about this odd high wall.

Dan, you asked what other molds do I have. Well in 30 cal I have Lyman 311291 GC, 311466 GC LOV, 311467 GC LOV, 311403. NOE 311-202 GC + PB.
Not getting the accuracy I expected with the Loverin bullets. I suspect I may have cast them too soft (1 to 22). I plan later in the spring to try casting them again in a harder alloy. At present I plan to start with the NOE 211-202 bullet in my 30-30 CPA, and 308 Rem 700 VS LH.

Would like to hear your thoughts about the Loverin bullets.

Sendaro ..... as for the Loverin bullets in my 700...non worked... EXCEPT..for the 314466, sized down to 310 , cast in 4-4-92 alloy ... it with 2400 or Rx7 is a one holer at 100 yds..3/8" would have a flier in it...the 314299 Plan Base and with a 304 nose..pushed with Universal will do the same thing...the other great shooter either PB or GC'd is of course the 315...

Did you catch the BSA in 218 Bee with a one piece stock ?.....I think it was on this site...it shot cast very well..

No I didn't see that 218 Bee. Have a friend that has an old German Schuetzen rifle with the action much like the martini in a 1 piece stock. It shoots a ringed bullet very well.
I have not worked much with the NOE311-202 yet, and plan to very soon. Have a plain base and a gas checked in the same mold. Want to see just what it will do with the PB at around 1500 fps to 1550 fps.

The Loverins have been put on the back burner for a while.

Sendaro...here are a couple of groups with plain base 299's and the 314466...obviously I an not the disciplined shooter your are but I think they will give you an idea of the potential of the bullets in your VS...Dan

Dan,

For sure you have an accurate rifle. Very nice groups. What speeds are you getting from the 2400 load and the 9.3 grain load of Universal? I shot many pounds of 2400 in pistols but have never used it in rifle cartridges.

That's a Boyd drop in ..and that's what it did AND shot those groups...the scope is a Leupold, Vari x 111, 6.5x 20 EFR, 40 mm, Target Dot
The 9.3 is probably on the high end like maybe 1300..
The 2400 loads I will look up..

Forgot the 2400..IMO it is an excellent cast bullet powder..I like Reloader 7 even more, plus it is more easily obtained...

I have groups like these in the 30-06 Springfields ( four and two grouves ) and a couple of Winchester bolt model 54 30-30's using those powders..

I also have a 6.5-20X Leupold Veri-XIII EFR scope and love it. I think it's one of the best buys on the market. I've used mine in rimfire BR, varmint hunting, test firing various rifles and it is still going strong. It's the scope that I recommend over and over again. The only thing I don't like about it is the sun shade. It works OK but looks like crap the way it is sized. I also have 2 other 6.5-20X Leupold scopes on both on varmint rifles at this time. The 8-25X Leupold is also a good one. I have one on my Cooper 21 in 204 Ruger. Dumped a lot of chucks and crows with that one.

I'll have to pick up a pound of 2400 and give it a try. I have on hand some AA#& but that's not the same as the RL 7 you mention.

Dan, Tell me more about the 315 bullet you make mention of.

Ah..the one and only Saeco 315 also cloned by NOE and Accurate molds...it is a 30 cal tapered , modified Loverin design...can be had in either plain base or gas checked....it will fit just about any throat and bore combination there is..for example ..it shoots out of my thight throated 30-30's with amazing accuracy..it fits all my 03's and 03a3's...my 700 .308 ..and is sub moa with iron sights out of my 1917 Eddystone..when sized .313...Ditto for the plain base....it just NEVER FAILS..very boring bullet..amazingly easy to work up loads for ...if I was restricted to one 30 cal mold that would be it...I believe there are many here who would agree....

I would most certainly agree. It's a very easy bullet to persuade to shoot well.
One of my biggest regrets with my .308 mauser is that it won't chamber the 315 bullet.

Ben told me about how well the 315 would shoot and he was right!

How so. .?

It fits my 1917...that has a .311 groove and .30 lands and zero leade..
