Even that takes some thought: the 03A3 or the Garand? Trevor's latest video has me leaning toward the Garand.

@creosote just click the [... down arrow] icon next to the smilies, click on the line that says media, and put the highlighted link from U-tube in the box that pops up.

fiddled around with the dogs today before 2 of them went home.
the G-son had a fit in the car about 75 miles out [coming home from Boise] wanting to come visit me for a while so the Girl brought him here instead of taking him home, she took the dogs then come back.
we just hung out in the backyard for about 1/2hr. and he was happy again.
I guess he told me about his trip [he sort of speaks clear sometimes] and showed me a little wooden train whistle he got in twin falls at the water fall on the snake river there.

I tied up a half dozen fake tube jigs in a gaudy bright silver and purple, and a few in the same black and silver like I used last time we went fishing.

I was sort of thinking that somebody was pretty wealthy. :) But that is a good thing, esp
if they are buying very cool, rare old guns.
i suspect that even the "cheap" version is not inexpensive. Very neat gun. I need to learn
more about this design.

Went to the range today with my daughter and Son-in-law , the boys will be in around midnight . Got drown . Soaked the AR and it's bag and the hard case with the High Point carbine in it 2 ammo cans got wet ......got drown picking up the rest of the brass .
Sure was handy having a Gunners mate and a Sniper Corps Marine on hand to get the 2 rifles and 4 pistols dried out .

The 6.8 left me impressed again , targets of opportunity at 50 ,75 , and 100 . Full power is kind of overkill for pop cans , water bottles and 6" rocks but the hits came easy and often . There was a plate sized rock on the back stop , that's a cake walk with a fine wire 4x . The High Point 4595 was a treat too . Almost quiet by comparison . I can see the H&G #130 needs a little more boot to keep the cases sealed up . The BlackHawk liked them too in the 45 ACP cyl too . We didn't get to shoot any in the 1917 .
The G42 was ........today must have just been one of those golden days . Zen without gross focus . Red Dot maybe .

Spent the rest of the day cleaning guns , and talking about whatever .

Yikes, $300K for the real thing.:oops: Four or five Porsche Cayman cars, depending on the
exact options list.

And even the nice repro is a serious commitment.
It is interesting to see that the guts are very much a version of the really excellent Lewis Gun
design, which was clearly a very advanced design in the preWW1 time frame.

I am surprised that I was not aware of this gun previously.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
More decent weather. Beautiful days lately. Still standing water in our fields, the curse of clay ground. Supposed to take both kids in for their drivers learners permit test today! Gord put his off due to his reading disability. Not sure how all this will turn out.

The radio said that we were now at 32 inches of rain since January. The normal rain for the calendar
year is 38 inches. We were 1.25 inches short of the all time record for June, and got about 3.5 inches
on Saturday night/Sunday morning, so I am sure we must have set an all time record for June precip.
Getting sick of the rain.
Sunny today.

A month ago we were 17 inches above normal for the year, been a good deal of rain since then. 4 1/2 inches Saturday night. Yep it's getting kinda tiresome.

Winelover

North Central Arkansas
Local radio station's webpage figures: Month: 9.57″ Year: 40.78″

The two-day total was 4.43 inches, which brings our monthly total up to 9.57 inches. That makes it the third wettest June in Mountain Home history, with six days left in the month.

I'm glad it wasn't snow in those quantities.
Rule of thumb is 1" of rain -10" of snow, so our 32 inches of rain so far would be 320" or
over 26 ft of snow. o_O

Hitting much of the whole middle of the country....although apparently the snow pack in the Sierras
is super high, and there was still plenty of snowdrifts in some places for some good snowball fights
in the Colorado mountains, too. Pretty widespread 'higher than normal precipitation', it would seem.

But, it's gonna do what it's gonna do. Whether we like it or not.

Last Wednesday the wife and I took a road trip. A little over 1000 miles in 3 days. I had completed all my contracts and had some castor and fur to sell. My buyer is in extreme SE Mn. (Eitzen) and there was an organized 60 miles of garage sales going on, so the wife was in! My buyer has a small sporting goods store/ fur buying/ grain elevator business. He's always been fair with me and castor price is up, so the trip was on. While there I picked up a couple used shotguns. Both 12 ga. mag. Remington expresses, sighted slug barrels. One looks like new, with full sized Birch stock, in the special purpose deer version. The other was a sighted slug barrel with ringed, short forearm, both stock and forearm of Walnut. This one was pretty rough, my guess a "Combine" gun. The previous owner had made a half attempt at covering some rust with gloss black spray paint, while the gun was still assembled. This one felt gummy when I worked the action, but too much paint will do that. LOL Other than a few dings the stock and forearm were in good shape, though the stock has a light colored knot in the top of the pistol grip where it meets the receiver. My guess is this gun was one of the first of the Express line when they used low grade walnut stocks before going to Birch.
We went from home (northern Mn.) to Eitzen (SE Mn.) to a casino on the ND and SD border to Fargo then home. About 50 garage sales in between. Wife managed to partially fill her van, she's a happy camper. About half way through this trip, the flange, at the muffler, gives way and the van rattles at idle. Not real loud and no parts fell out. We got some strange looks at some garage sales we stopped at, but the wife got some deals too! LOL
Just before we got home Friday, the county highway foreman calls me about removing some beaver dams they couldn't get to with the hoe. Saturday I put the canoe in and take out four dams at one place. I'm wearing heavy rubber chest waders and had sprayed on a liberal dose of the Repel 40% deet bug spray prior to starting. It was hot and I started getting dizzy. Thought it could be the deet or the heat so took the ice water out of my cooler and rinsed my head off good. All is good in a couple minutes. Load up the canoe and head to a second location to tear open a dam. Short walk to the dam and it only takes about half an hour. Start to drive out and get real dizzy again, driving on a road that runs parallel to a ditch for 4 miles! Had to stop for another quick dose of ice water! Dizziness subsides but now puke and get head rushes that make my face feel like it's on fire! Contemplate calling the wife but don't want to leave my truck and gear in here and the road is kinda rough for the wifes Rav4. Stop the truck, drink a Pepsi and get to feeling human again. Back in the truck and about 30 minutes to drive the 4 miles out to the main road. Had 9 miles to get home so drove home pretty slow. Wife was heading out the driveway when I get home to come look for me. Got in the shower, thinking I needed to get the bug spray off me. Wife is henning over me now and making me drink lots of water. I try to sleep but every time i'm about to doze off I get a head rush that leaves my face feeling like it's on fire! This goes on for about four hours and the wife is wanting to take me to the ER. About 2100 hrs I get a serious case of puking and all is well in 10 minutes!!! Wife thought I may have caught a bug from one of the many places we were or people we met. I had bought some chocolate chip cookies at a church fund raiser on the way home, and eaten those while doing the dams at the first location. Other than that, I hadn't consumed anything other than water or Pepsi. Still not sure if it was the heat, the deet, or the cookies.
Sooooo, Sunday the wife wouldn't let me leave the yard. Tore apart the Special purpose and just cleaned up the inside. Then I tore into that "Combine" gun. Stripped both the wood and metal. Painted the metal with a Krylon ultra flat camo green. Most of the original matte finish was under the black paint, with some light rust. Cleaned up well. The wood got a good rub of Linseed oil and just put a coat of satin varnish this AM. Couple more coats of varnish and it should make a good truck gun. Wife is letting me off the leash tomorrow. Ordered the exhaust system for her van. I don't mind installing exhaust systems, as long as it's all new parts. I've got a torch and recip. saw.

I use the 40% Deet also but I've never gotten sick from it. If I manage to breath the spray while applying it my throat closes right up and it's gag time till I can get it cleared.

I've used it since it came out, I'm thinking three years ago. I wear a camo Boonie Hat, that I just keep spraying it on, so it is full of it. I was thinking maybe the heat opened up my pores and I just got a lot in my system. Don't really know but the wife just washed about $10.00 worth of it out of the hat. LOL Took it right out of my truck!

My bet is the chocolate chip cookies had something not quite right with them. A bit of
e coli or something in there. Glad you were OK. When puking fixes it quickly and totally,
believe it was something that you ate.

I'm thinking the same thing Bill. When it went away that fast after puking it just about had to be. The head rushs made me think it was chemical, but I'd used the bug spray for a long time. Heat and I don't get along well, and the older I get the more I avoid it. I'll take -40 any day over 80. No bugs at -40 either! LOL

chemicals can build up over time, and when you get enough then you show the symptoms.
it's like those guys 'immune' to poison ivy,,, then suddenly they ain't.

I got the garden mostly put back together, and all the plastic covers put away today.
about the time I got all my jig tying stuff out littlegirl called wanting me to bring a chain saw over.
I told her to come over and I would dig the old mc cullough out and see if we could get it started.
at some time in the past it had been tipped sideways and the oil had leaked all into everything,, everything.
I had to take it apart twice, clean the oil out of the cylinder and close the gap on the spark plug a little, but I finally got it going.
I'm pretty positive it hasn't been started in 20+ years, but I knew the chain was sharp.
since they were there Littlegirl fired up my BBQ which hasn't been used in 12 years [seriously] and cooked some chicken.
the wife made a salad from the lettuce and broccoli spears from the garden, but added some cheese and a few small pieces of rhubarb stalk from the side of the house, and a few baby carrots from the cold box.
[she tried getting a few baby beets too but they need another few weeks]
the oldest girl, baked up a couple of loaves of beer bread that I helped her make the dough for earlier.
then we sat out back in the shade of the crab apple tree and ate dinner around the card tables while listening to a couple of CD's.
