At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
But there seems to be no end of people willing to "patch up" people 'til the next part breaks. I sometimes wonder, being a cynical type with little faith in human beings, if there are in fact "cures" out there for some of what ails us. And more to the point, are there "cures" that are being held back just make sure there's a revenue stream incoming for whatever entity.com has the "cure"? I mean, they pretty much wiped out TB, measles, polio and a mess of other stuff. Why not cancers, heart diseases, etc.? Those are multi-trillion dollar industries. The cynic in me doubts that any CEO worth his Ivy League Degree would cut off his revenue stream...

Well, we have been pretty successful with small pox and TB, but only because the vaccines are so effective if you can get 99.9999% of the people vaccinated. We still have measles out here because they no longer require kids to be vaccinated before school. Polio is spreading in Afghanistan and Central Asia. No vaccines, no large scale reduction i.e. Malaria.

Stuff that works, works. In medicine or autos. Seems like the 'hunt' for more cures isn't going real well. Cause of cancer was identifies in 1942, still no real cure, if there actually is one. For now we just kill parts of the body. Not sure all the 'stuff' that is rated carcinogenic is really any cause. As a teen, had a friend that did mice testing for cancer. Grab one, give HUGE dose of something and see if it develops cancer. Peanut allergies - supposedly because folks don't feed the kids PB early in life. ADHD, in many cases is parents that can't handle their kids. Yes, I've been around kids with real ADHD and that is difficult.

One of the problems with "Cancer" is there are literally hundreds of different diseases that fall under the catchall phrase "Cancer". Medicine has made remarkable strides in treating/curing many of them. Others, not so much. There are at least 4 different types of leukemia, some genetic, some caused by exposure to toxins....some are immanently treatable and even curable. The point is cancer is not one disease but hundreds of different ones, with different causes known and unknown. There is no magic pill.

When my wife was battling breast cancer we had a long discussion with her oncologist (she pulled through that one). He noted that in the grand scheme of things we know very little about cancer, compared to other maladies. "As we know better, we do better". That was twenty years ago. Survival rates for many cancers are much improved even from that time to now. I wish there was a simple answer.

I am as cynical as the next guy, maybe more, but I don't think there is some grand conspiracy to keep cancer flourishing. I don't know of anyone whose life hasn't been touched by cancer in a loved one. Even corporate CEO's and bean counters....for sure doctors. "As we know better, we do better"......I pray we keep learning.

Maybe I've been lucky, the medical profession has benefitted me. I have a different approach from many people, I talk to the doctor or medical specialist about my thoughts. And I keep a positive attitude. This is based on two experiences in my life.

Growing up, I had a farm community doctor, Dr. Picard, who grew up and got his degree in Austria. He was trained to treat the whole person and not the symptoms. At the age of twenty, Dr. Picard got me through second and third degree burns over thirty percent of my body without too much scarring and at the age of thirty-eight a concussion so severe I had to learn to walk again.

When I had the concussion, I kept a daily diary of what I did, what I ate, what I felt and we reviewed this three times a week. One night as he was reading the diary with his back to me, I said, "Doc, even if we have to operate, let's see what we can do. I want to get well."

He turned to me and said, "If you want to get well, you will get well. If all my patients said that, I'd be a miracle worker. I've seen this before and we will try things that have worked in the past."

I recovered slowly for two years, then went on to a successful career. And this statement has always stuck with me. Whenever getting a new doctor, I bring this statement of Dr. Picard up in the initial discussion. The doctor recognizes the concept and we have a deeper discussion. They are not insulted by what I have said.

Cancer, I was diagnosed in August 2016 with Multiple Myeloma. The initial diagnosis was at Everett Providence, they told me I had a tumor in spine, it was cancerous and they could not identify the cancer. They then told me I had 90-120 days to live and to get my affairs in order. Then two hours later, their neurologist came down, said he had talked to Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle and they would take me as a patient.

At Swedish, five doctors worked seven hours to remove the tumor and rebuild my spine. The next day their oncologist came down and enlisted me into an investigative drug program. This worked for six years, slowing the progress of the disease. In May of last year, I enrolled into a different investigative drug program. This infuses a modified protein into me, this protein attaches to a specific receptor on the cancer cell. The white blood cells recognize the new cell as an intruder, builds a T-cell to fight the cancer cell and sweeps it from the body.

I think you need to enroll your doctor and think of them as a team. I tell them, "You are the medical expert and I rely on you. I am the integrated project manager. If you want a 787 Global Collaboration Enterprise built or a successful 767 Tanker bid, that is my expertise."

I take exception to the statement the medical community is fostering disease to keep themselves working. The dedication of the doctors at Swedish and the other cancer doctors I've met in the greater Seattle area is unbelievable. They are here to eliminate the disease and actively participating in research that will cure cancer in its many forms.

Lucky Bud. The first step in all that is finding the doctor that will listen to you, not an easy task for sure. My experience is more "you're the patient and therefore stupid. Take this sugar pill and see me in three months, make sure your insurance is paid up. For three years I told my doctor at every visit that I am fighting chronic exhaustion, waste of breath. Finally at my last appointment she says take B-12 shots and you'll be fine, see me in 6 months. Shots aren't doing anything and it's 5 more months until I get to tell her I am fighting chronic exhaustion.

I believe you lucked out and landed in the care of some of the few really good ones Bud. Same with lawyers, there are some real jewels out that and then there are the rest. Ricks post mirrors most of what I've seen- "Take these pills, see me in 3 months." The good doctors my in laws put their faith in couldn't even ID a simple infection that rotted out my FIL's heart valves. I actually had a "Dr." tell my mother who was recovering from anti-cancer treatment that she had no more than 6 weeks at the best. She died 6 weeks later. You can't tell me that's the right way to do things.

Last year I got a puppy, named her Cutie.

Cutie-4-22.jpg

A few months later the Pulmonary doc orders a CT scan, follow up appointment he says you're looking at lung surgery and 2 to 4 weeks in the hospital. Great, what will I do with the dog? I took her back to the kennel I got her from. A month later Pulmonary doc orders another CT scan to get ready for surgery. Follow up appointment he says your lungs have cleared up, no surgery, see me again in a year. Great, should have kept the dog and took the doctor to the kennel.

Remember, fifty percent of all lawyers and doctors graduate in the bottom of their class. Pursuing a Chemistry degree, there were always several pre-med students in each class. Based on their under-graduate capabilities, I feared for their patients if they got through medical school.

Cause of cancer was identifies in 1942. As unregulated growth of body cells. Generally stated as a DNA change (damage) in normal cells. It is one disease that is from different body cells. We know that some sources can cause damage to get it started. And some 'cures' as well as life extenders. My statement isn't so much about the cures but the 'assigned' risk of chemicals. The EPA has now stated all water will be tested for polys and NONE are allowed in water! I consider that fake science.

The amount of sacrine that caused cancer in laboratory animals to be at the same levels in humans would require a person to drink 72-84 diet sodas per day .

The exposure levels in the lab that caused oil cancers involved 18 hour a day immersion constantly.

Prop 65 in California requires leaded crystal to be labeled as a toxic carcinogenic.

The Fallon NV leukemia cluster after 3 years of intensive testing of everything except the most likely sources was blamed on the unknown and still unstudied effects of tungsten. It was the only environmentally present element at unusually high levels . Nevermind that some 60% of the children affected were Navy kids that lived in housing not far from the fueling area and down wind or that it happened in a time frame when an obscene amount of fuel was "misplaced" .......I've read that JP4 and 5 are pretty nasty . But sure let's blame it on 1 of 7 tungsten mines on the planet that's been there for 70 years.

Isn't there some like nose art albums or pin up collections or something ?

Somewhere in the deep, dark, and unexplored depths of the Brazilian rainforest is a plant that has the ability to cure all forms of cancer.

If one were to believe Prop. 65, there is not a thing on the planet that is not a carcinogen.

Which is a good reason to stop screwing up the rain forest and the rest of the planet as well.

While I'm a long way from being a "tree hugger", at least stop clearing the South American rain forests that produce a very significant percentage of our atmosphere's O2.

Cancer is a natural progression of DNA modification thru cell replacement. There is no "cure". Don't want cancer? Die young!

I kind of like RBharter's idea to talk about Bettie Page. Actually, a photograph of her would be bith old and enjoyable and get the thread back on track.

Is that where they make the automotive carburetor that makes a car run on water only?

EDIT after I re-read the post: Oops, I was thinking of a manufacturing plant, not a horticulture plant, LOL.

Problem is what cost is it to take all the pols out? And what happens if they find some? Shut down NYC or LA water supply? They don't THINK!
